Why does everyone think Florida State's defense is so good this year?
Probably checked out the last few classes on 247 before the game.
FSU may be the best they play this year, may not. LSU was better last year, but FSU returns more starters. I'd bet on LSU being the better defense this year too. We'll see
2016
Scoring Defense: -LSU 5th, FSU 47th
Total Defense: -----LSU 7th, FSU 20th
Rushing Defense: LSU 11th, FSU 19th
Passing Defense: LSU 18th, FSU 56th
Common opponents: Ole Miss, Louisville, UF
------------------LSU-------FSU
UF yards------270--------207
UF points------16----------13
UL yards-------220--------530
UL points--------9-----------63
OM yards------325--------380
OM points------21----------34

Pass protection yes run blocking Bama ran for 178 yards and only negative running play was one and that was Jalen.

They brought back 40% more production on that side of that ball, which is why people think they’ll be good. But bringing back 80% of production that was average AF does equal a great defense.
They also brought back Derwin James, who might be the best defensive player in the country.
That's the best opposing defense I've seen in person since 2011 LSU. It doesn't excuse our mishaps, but that is an incredible defense loaded with NFL players at all levels.

Lets see how the season plays out.
I bet they're not top 5 end of the year.
Scoring defense ranks since Charles Kelly has been there:
2014: 50th (Pruitt had them #1 the prior year)
2015: 9th
2016: 44th
I just don't think he's that great of a DC. He had most of the same players last year and it was a very average squad.

LSU's defense will be good, but the weakness will be right up the middle on the DL. No depth or real beef past our nose tackle Gilmore.
Mr White disagrees with you.

What in the frick.
This the deepest and biggest our DL has been since 2011 and we have Devin White (260 lbs) and Donnie Alexander (235 lbs).
Major DL contributors:
Lacouture - 300 lbs.
Gilmore - 310 lbs.
Alexander - 340 lbs.
Herron - 312 lbs.
Ferrel - 290 lbs.
Lawrence - 300 lbs.
shite, even Arden Key is up to like 260.

So if we don't improve, we won't have an elite year? Enlightening stuff. Hope that didn't keep you up at night.

quote:Have you actually watched Alabama football the last decade? They methodically show steady improvement as the season progresses. I see nothing that points to them not doing the same this season. It was the season opener vs a top 5 team in the country with a load of NFL caliber players.
Florida State's offense was abysmal. Our defense definitely played a part in that, but there are many teams in the SEC that will challenge us more.
How good FSU's defense is will be determined in a few more games, but I'm willing to bet LSUs is just as good if not better. Auburn's may be as good this season too. If we can't pass protect better, and open larger holes for the RBs, it's going to be a didsapointing year for Bama.

Alabama wins suffocating and dominating game that was hard fought all four quarters.... THIS TEAM IS SO FLAWED PAAWWWWWLLLL!!!!!!

OP you need to go dine on a rat poison omelet... You are exactly the type of idiot that opposing fan bases laugh at.. IT WAS ONE FREAKING GAME AGAINST ONE OF THE FASTEST, TALENTED, and SKILLED defenses in the fricking country... You have Way too much Bama in you Harvey Jr.

Don't think Florida St defense is better than LSU's.

Well, last season, Ole Miss put 43 on them, and Arky put 30 on them. Bama's O was pretty good last year, so they better hope they're still good enough to stay alive in shootouts like that.
Posted on 9/6/17 at 4:02 pm to Pacito
Thats just sunshine pumping from the Bama fans. They cant accept that Hurts still cant pass. So it must be that FSU defense.

ude, we just played one, if not the best defenses we will play all year.
At Bama we have a ton of insecure/the sky is falling fans.
I think LSU and AU both have as good of a Defense as FSU. I didn't buy into the FSU hype and always felt they would lose 3-4 games if they played an SEC Schedule.

Wait, I thought preseason polls were meaningless. Or are they just meaningless right up until they support your position?

By the time the O is "needed", I'm confident they'll execute better than they did in week 1
Isnt it pretty much the same offense as last season?
