Pod 1: Gulf Coast

LSU
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Texas A&M

Pod 2: Ozarks

Arkansas
Missouri
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

Pod 3: Plains

Alabama
Auburn
Georgia
Kentucky

Pod 4: I95

Florida
North Carolina
North Carolina State
South Carolina

The teams would all play 8 conference games broken down as follows:

3 within Division
1-2 permanent cross-pod rivals
3-4 others

The permanent rivals would be:

Alabama/Tennessee
Alabama/LSU
Arkansas/Texas A&M
Arkansas/LSU
Florida/Georgia
Florida/Tennessee
Georgia/South Carolina
Kentucky/Vanderbilt
Kentucky/North Carolina
Missouri/South Carolina

Top two pod winners play in Atlanta for the title.

Switch Georgia and Florida and Tennessee and Kentucky and it works beautifully.

ETA: Also, doing a match rotating pod system would work better. For instance, pod A & C are matched for two years and they would switch to other pod partners for two years and the two winner from the matchup play in the SEC title game.

UF / Auburn are rivals. Both school's fans would like to play yearly again.

You need a SEC history lesson

UK + UT + VU is almost a given in any pod discussion

You had me at pod. I remember reading a breakdown/suggestion of the pod system a few years ago and it is so much better than the current system, especially as it relates to frequency of interaction between teams.

This would be tough sledding for UGA. Kentucky might as well give up football.

4 Divisions:

West:
aTm
MiZZOU
Arkansas
LSU

Antebellum:
Ole Miss
MSU
AU
Bama

Appalachian:
VU
UK
UT
UNC

Atlantic:
NCSU
USCe
UGA
UF

Per your scenario...
3 within Division
1-2 permanent cross-pod rivals
3-4 others

UNC/NCSU could be a permanent rival match-up, as could UT/Bama, UGA/AU, LSU/UF etc...

I'd be down.

NC is the last real prize for the SEC. maybe Virginia, but an opportunity like this is unlikely to happen again. Swoop in and force the ACC to act.

Although, I realize it will never happen. I enjoy the idea behind the pod system.

One thing that could work to determine championship teams is combine 2 pods for a representative and rotate the pods every year. Play all of the teams from your pod (3 games), along with the pod you're matched with that year (4 games), and then each team has a permanent non-pod rival that they must play ever year. (1 game)

Year 1 - SEC West + SEC South vs. SEC East + SEC North
Year 2 - SEC West + SEC East vs. SEC South + SEC North
Year 3 - SEC West + SEC North vs. SEC South + SEC East

Scheduling would probably be a bitch but it would be fun. Plus the longest you'd go without playing another SEC team would only be 2 years rather than the 6 we have now.

I said this would be a good way to handle pods a couple years ago and still think it's the best way to do it.

Pods of 4 + Superpods of 8 that rotate every year to determine a championship game.

Just going off a quick glance, but has anyone discussed the idea of:

3
1(permanent)
3(rotating)

4 pod winner semi final? Obviously there would be shitty teams with a chance at a championship sometimes by virtue of being the best in a shite pod, and also takes away from home games... I'm kind of talking myself out of this idea.
