Do you consider AU a well-coached football team?

Auburn was the least penalized team in the SEC this year.

Auburn also had the 2nd fewest turnovers of any team in the SEC.

I know it won't stop the bitching, but at least it's something to consider... This is one of the best Auburn teams I can remember in terms of limiting the mental mistakes that plague most teams from time to time -- solid in special teams, drastically cut down on missed tackles, limited turnovers and penalties.

We are not well coached at QB. The most important position on the field. Loved our defense this year.

Disciplined does not equal well coached.

If you can't develop quarterbacks or call rational plays, penalties don't really matter. Offensively, we've already made a good share of negative plays the last two years.

As much as we want to trash Gus, the guy has built a great program outside QB issues.

We have elevated play at nearly every position group and depth

Offense
RB Play RB Depth
Most promising WR group to arrive at Auburn in nearly a decade
Consistently Good OL play every year

Defense

Rebuilt Defensive Line Depth

LB don't look like dumpster fires and some depth

Cornerbacks that don't look like burnt toast + depth

Quality Safety play + depth Tray Matthews

No I do not. I consider a well coached team one that puts the players in a position to be successful and one that gets better throughout the year. We failed miserably on getting better during the year and actually fall apart in November.

Outside of QB and WR, we're extremely well coached. There are aspects of Gus that lead to championships. Also aspects of Gus that lead to DIII quality bullshite that no Auburn team should ever have.

QB development is terrible but not the worst part of the program. Worst part is game planning against difficult opponents, something a good SEC coach has to do 50% of the year.

Gus didn't have to game plan much in 2013. We ran the read option and threw it deep a bit. In 2015 and 2016 when we actually needed to be innovative to get the upper hand? Utter disaster.

I've been highly unimpressed by the fundamentals of the WRs this year too.

Guess it depends on what you mean by well coached football team? I think from a discipline standpoint this is one of the best AU teams I have seen. Very little stupidity after the whistle or dumb penalties in secondary.

But we also rotated 5 QBs to open the season, didn't get a first down against one of our top rivals & ran a FB pass on 4th down against the #1 team in the country. We still have room for improvement

After the Cox pass in the Iron Bowl, I commented to my friend that Gus is convinced he's coaching for the Harlem Globetrotters. So I'd say AU is well-coached in the way the Globetrotters are well-coached, except Gus doesn't realize the Generals aren't on the schedule every week. We're better this season on fundamentals overall, but fundamentals aren't what killed multiple offensive drives for us.

And while our defense is leaps and bounds better than its been in years, I'm still concerned about our coaching in the secondary. I suppose technically they're playing fundamentally sound on intermediate & long routes, but the DBs seem to lack that sixth sense when the ball is nearing the WRs hands. Maybe that can't be coached, though. Fortunately, our pass rush prevents many of those balls from being accurate, so it hasn't been a major cause of concern (yet, anyway)...

It's possible we're better coached this year from a discipline standpoint, but I did notice in several games that the refs seemingly decided to just let both teams play (barring any too-obvious infractions), so there's that too....for every "man, the refs hosed us on that play!", there seemed to be a "whew, we got away with that one" to counter it, lol....

Yes. The issues with AU are easily fixable with a change up at OC. Overall the team is very solid.
