I was talking with a friend at work today and we were discussing the sub regional areas and different cultures within the south east.
I couldn't think of what entire areas are called for some reason (North LA/South Central Arkansas for example) That or I've just never heard if they have a formal designation. What do you guys have?
Off the top of my head
Gulf Coast
Appalachia
The Delta
"Deep South"?
Piedmont?

I just call the whole region "not Texas" and call it good
For real, though, there are a LOT of sub-regions. I couldn't begin to name 'em all.

Would you put Florida in with the gulf coast? I don't think I would.
The delta… it's its own third world country

Arkansas alone would be broken up into Boston Mountains, Ozarks, River Valley, Ouchitas, Delta, and maybe even some more in Eastern/Southern Arkansas.

Kentucky itself is divided up into several different regions. This is probably closest to what I learned growing up.
Instead, in the Outer Bluegrass was The Knobs, Cumberland Plateau was Appalachian, and the Mississippi Plateau was the Pennyroyal.

I know the coastal region of South Carolina is called the Lowcountry. Heard that term a lot as a kid, believe it is still used.

A lot depends on what type of subregions you want to talk about. Are we talking about cultural, geographic or geologic? Are we talking about areas that can include large sections of multiple states or areas that are contained within a state?
Like Georgia has three major geographic/geologic regions - the mountains, the piedmont and the coastal plain.
Some areas (Gulf Coast) can be considered geographic as well as cultural.
Just some terms I will throw out and let people assign them where they feel are best.
Cotton Belt
Black Belt
Wiregrass
Lowcountry
Delta
Appalachia
Gulf Coast

I would argue that the red region (Ozarkia) and the dark green region (Mississippi embayment/swampland) are part of the South.

I know Arkansas has The Ozarks, Oauchitas, Delta, and Gulf Coastal Plain. Arkansas has anything from Spanish Moss and Alligator infested palmetto swamps to Mountain Towns that get significant snow.... Cowboy Ranches in the west, and Delta Blues towns like Helena...... Very diverse for a small state
