what's our head to head record vs. Auburn 11-13-1? Seems like we are pretty even????
I think its close. But Auburn's series record is close with everyone. That's just how they operate.
UGA leads Auburn in the series by a single game. Vandy actually leads Auburn in the series (though I do think most of those Vandy wins were from the very old days). Yet Auburn leads the series against Florida and Tennessee both I believe.
Nothing about all that makes much sense.
Series records don't often tell the whole story though. I think of Auburn as a legit Top 15 program... right up alongside Georgia, Florida, etc.
I think of Arkansas as a Top 25 program thanks to some success back in the old days, but also a program that's been on the decline in recent decades.

Bert has Arkansas on the right track but they have to stop with the slow starts.
Auburn has never been consistent, that's not a Gus Bus thing.

Somebody go back and post threads from when arkie played Toledo last season. CFB is a fickle game.
Do you really want to drag up threads from that day? AU was struggling mighty hard on the Plains with JaxState.
But AU folks haven't switched their opinion as quickly as the arkie folks. Heck, there were AU folks who weren't on the Gusbus half way through 2014.

Don't just use this forum as some view of the fan base. There are still plenty that are not sold, just check our team forum from time to time.

I think both are good coaches. SEC West is just a tough neighborhood. I think that most programs have to hope for some good seasons along with some very bland seasons. If people are expecting Saban level results it just isn't going to happen.

Both are better coaches than that gender neutral weirdo that they love in Knoxville.

Really?? I didnt get a chance to see Arkansas spring game, I was goin off the hype I heard about him. He probably need more time to get adjusted to the system but I believe he has a really high ceiling

He was the 3rd string for the Spring game and as far as I know hasn't moved at all. All Arkansas fans have been a little disappointed with him so far but a lot can change.

Butch is a better recruiter though and that shite matters a lot. If he has the right coordinators, watch out.

I would actually be very interested to see how some of the best recruits would do at Arkansas.

Says a lot about expectations at each program imo
It does. As long as we keep getting those 4.0 Gpas with high AP scores we are thrilled with Liberty bowls*

Interestingly enough, no one has really included Butch in the comparison when all three were hired the same season. I think the "perception" at lease the national perception of Butch is greater than Bert or Gus.
I can't wait to see how the season pans out for these 3 teams.

I agree as a whole but I think the media sees that Butch has had some major issues in game time coaching. He can change all of that with a great season though.

Comparatively, I have to respect what Butch is doing at Tennessee (at least from a recruiting perspective) more so than any other Coach hired that year. That being said, I like the program Bert is building at Arkansas. I truly do wish we could pull in the recruits like Butch.

The truth is that Arkansas was a fluke play away from losing to Ole Miss and a play away from losing to Auburn at home. Had just two plays gone differently, Arkansas would have been 5-7 and sitting at home during bowl season. Sure there were some close losses (Texas A&M, Toledo, etc.), but if Bert's team were truly "on the rise" I don't think there would be so many close games against very mediocre competition.

Four of Auburn's six losses were by 8 points or less.... the only two that weren't were against LSU (blowout) and Alabama... and even in that game, Alabama was up 9 until they scored a TD with 26 seconds left in the game.
So.... you're telling us that close losses are more impressive than close wins? Interesting concept.

I feel like both programs are going into an important year.
I feel like the entire West sans Alabama and MSU are going into important years.
LSU - Expectations for program/Miles at highest point, need to deliver "or else"
AU - Malzahn needs to dig himself out of hole created last 2 seasons on downward trend, must improve "or else"
aTm - Much like Malzahn, Sumlin has trended down last 2 seasons, not being able to keep any of his QBs it seems, must improve "or else"
Arky - Despite a barely upward trend, Bielema has yet to leave a good mark at Arkansas in any season he's been there, how long do they put up with Houston Nutt esque-seasons after the success Petrino had
OM - Do they have the best coach in their history in Freeze? Looming sanctions could make a quick exit for Freeze depending how things end up
MSU - Honestly, Mullen is going to cruise through the season ridicule free because there are zero expectations, his seat is so cool after the success he had with Dak
Bama - Of course Bama fans always want to compete for NCs, but no one would shed a tear for Nick or the program is they just missed the playoffs and went something like 10-3 in a "down" year

I get the impression that Bielema is kind of old school in his belief that he doesn't have to have all the blue chippers to win. Also, his gameplans aren't necessarily rooted in styles that are in line with the systems that drive current recruiting rankings. I think he can win sometimes that way but I think that you won't get to the top routinely in a league where everyone is recruiting so well. Maybe he will prove me wrong.
