Atlanta traffic storys

Yesterday, traffic slowed north of Mcdonough. 4 car accordion. This is not unusual.
Car in flames, tires melting at the Buford highway exit on 285. This was Friday.
I don't go through Atlanta very often, but this shite is crazy. I've driven past bouts between an 18 wheeler and a Kia. Guess who lost. I have had to dodge idiots trying to cross 4 lanes on 285, carrying a tire (I saw them climbing the 4' concrete divider between the north/south lanes).I've had idiots pass me in the emergency lane on 85South...I was reaching for the Ruger in the console when he cut back in, I fishtailed in bumper to bumper 70mph traffic.
I avoid Atlanta. It's dangerous if you are driving.
You couldn't pay me 6 figures to put up with this shite on a daily basis

I was driving from Athens to Gods country back while at UGA - which called for me to get on 285 and then 75N. I got around 285 fairly well but 1 min on 75 I was in the fast lane giving it all I had and my 84 Prelude had a major blowout on the front right tire. Shredded.
I fought it over to the inside emergency/death lane and luckily came to a stop. After weighing my options I decided to change the tire. The spare on my Honda was in the trunk and at that time my trunk was chocked full of shite. Full size cooler, life jackets, blankets, etc. I had to pull all that shite out on the side of the road to get my tire....which would've looked small on a kids bike.
I go around to the front right of the car and there was about 2 feet between my car and the fast lane. I got over there with one of those fricking Japanese jacks and changed my tire...with my arse literally hanging in the fast lane where everyone was going about 100mph. I could hear the songs on the radio and smell the cologne of every motherfricker that passed...while standing on the horn and yelling shite. When a big truck came by I literally grabbed my car and prayed to Jesus not to get sucked out into the road. There was no mercy...no cops....just me; my Honda, a Japanese jack and toy tire vs the unbridled fury of 75N on an early Friday afternoon. That shite is a lot more intense when your sitting still and out in the open.
Needless to say I survived and changed my tire. But if that shite ever happened again I'd drive on rims across 7 lanes to get to an off ramp. The Gods were amused enough on that day to protect me...but I'll never forget that shite.

My favorite story is the out of towners who are going 30 miles over the speed limit in the left lane when a GSP pulls up next to them and tells them over the horn that they need to move over to let the faster traffic pass.

2013- On my way up to the Clemson game. Picking up someone in Atlanta. Traffic comes to a standstill. I'm stopped. Someone runs into the back of be, causing me to run into the car in front of me. My car is totaled.
2015-Going up to an interview in Atlanta. Driving up from southeast Georgia. Get into Atlanta at 3:00. Plenty of time. The interview is at 4:15. It starts raining. 5 wrecks along the way later, I pull into the parking lot for the interview at 4:45. I was absolutely humiliated.
It's so nice living in a city that has the infrastructure that makes having a car unnecessary.

I drove in that traffic for 30 years. 90 minute commute each way to work (17 miles).
In North Alabama I had a 30 minute commute (22 miles) and only had to worry about 4 traffic signals.

I would put Norfolk up there with that fricking traffic and tunnels. Two tours there. frick that.

Norfolk? I've been going to Norfolk my whole life and I've seen bad traffic once and that was when coming back from Richmond Hill. And I like the tunnels. Hold your breath through one for good luck.

The problem with Atlanta traffic is not Atlantans. It's the folks from other places who don't know how to drive.

I'd be dead from a heart attack inside of 2 years on that route.
It's just not natural.at all. This is ant hill bee hive colony type stuff. No wonder they lean toward commie principles. Just a whole different species.

They do pay me 6 figures to put up with this shite, but fortunately can work from home when I choose (and when not traveling). Honestly, if you don't like big cities, then I get it, but if you choose to live in a metropolitan area, ATL is far better than most. I can walk from my house to go fly fishing or hop in the kayak or even do a little light bouldering, the restaurant scene is actually better than most cities I visit, and relative to a NYC, CHI, BOS, or even DC, the weather can't be beat and the traffic is actually better (not by a ton, but it is actually better - with lone exception that drivers here seem to struggle with the concept of merging... alternate like a zipper you fricks v^v^v^). I used to also fault ATL drivers for losing 30-50 IQ points in the rain, but have since learned that's all cities, even fricking Seattle where it rains all the God damn time.
I get it... if you are from fricking Soperton, GA, or wherever else in central/south GA where the most cars you see at any given time is like 6 and the most lanes in any direction is 3 even including the interstate, that Atlanta is a bit sketchy. But you could say the same if you visited any of the cities I listed above, or hit JAX or ORL in heavy traffic. I spent a year plus living in ORL and saw more heinous accidents there than i have in almost 10 in Atlanta... short story is tourists are fricking idiots.... drunk tourists even bigger ones.
Personally, I'm good with it. We need more people moving to Atlanta like I need a second taint. But the constant bitching around here about the city that quite literally keeps this fricking state afloat and out of the realm of Mississippi territory is so tired. Come up with something new.

This is not as true as I wish it was. Particularly in the last couple of years, I feel that the truly shite drivers that I see doing dangerous things and causing problems have Gwinnett, Fulton, Cobb, Dekalb, etc. plates. The non ATL drivers that cause problems are the ones that clog up the left hand lanes going 55 and white knuckling the steering wheel... while incredibly irritating, it's not the worst thing and often times that's the catalyst for even worse driving.

Horrible. Used to take me 40 minutes to get from 64/264 to 64/564 and that was using the HOV lane. For those unfamiliar with Norfolk, that's about 7-8 miles, and that route doesn't even include a tunnel.
I left base one Friday at 3:30 and went straight to Richmond. Norfolk to Richmond is roughly 70 miles straight up I-64. I got there at 6:15. 64 goes from three lanes to two immediately before the tunnel from Norfolk to Hampton and that shite backs traffic up all damn day. Absolutely awful.
495 in DC is the worst I've ever been through though.

Never been to LA but DC is the winner for me.

DC has worse driver than Iraq. I've never seen the crap that was pulled up there recently. Full blown dummies.
