I don't know about that. I think Golloway was going to turn Auburn into a monster. Too bad he is a nutjob.

The lack of a lottery in al hurts both bama and au in baseball but it isn't likely to change so it just is what it is.

Mississippi is in the same boat. Partial schollies suck. Having to split scholarships between two players had always put us at a disadvantage in baseball.

I think Gaspard's contract expired after this season. I hope it wasn't going to be renewed and they just let him resign to avoid being fired.

Bama fans and others speculating on Bama trying to land a big name baseball coach. I hope so, but let's face facts, there has only been one great SEC baseball coach past twenty years or so imo, Skip Bertman.

I'm not looking for Skip Bertman. I just want a coach that can consistently get Bama to top half of the SEC with regular regional bids and a CWS appearance mixed in every so often.

might very well be. Gaspard was not a bad coach just not in the upper half of the league.
new park, new coach. if bama starts big time promoting the sport your program may leap forward. I know your previous coach had it going for awhile.

Meh, with only 12 schollies it isn't gonna matter who the coach is. I know ms doesn't have a lottery but I believe they offer some kind of assistance financially. Bama tries to do it with only the 12 schollies so they are in effect on probation every year. U could bring in bertman in his prime and he'd have a 500 record.
It's why we don't get excited about baseball. Without a lottery everybody I know just gave up. Everyone has pretty much resigned themselves that we destined to bottom of SEC. We only get rich kids who's parents can afford tuition and nobody else wanted. Blame gaspard all u want but given good, talented scholarshipped players he could compete. I wouldn't take the job if I were a coach. U are bound to playing with one arm. Sad really.

I have news for you, with or without a lottery each team get 11 and some odd schollies.
all schools get the same. now, some private schools have been approved for certain financial aid packages but it still cost the player more to attend them.
the "we only get rich kids that nobody else wanted" is really an amazing statement and incredibly untrue.

Foundation is there for Bama. Now they just need to land the right coach.

That's an absurd and lazy argument. The same limitations that existed under Schellenberger and Wells, exist now. Those two took Alabama to SEC championships and CWS appearances. Falling behind in the facilities race and hiring an average coach, in Mitch Gaspard, allowed for Alabama to find itself in its current predicament. The former has been corrected with brand new facilities. Now they have to find a coach.

You can't bring facts into this discussion.
I hope bama goes and hires Serrano away from UT.

TOPS has been an advantage for LSU baseball. LINK
quote:
Since its inception, the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students — otherwise known as TOPS — gave Louisiana’s state schools some cost-effective flexibility on the college baseball diamond.
Per NCAA rules, Division I baseball programs are given 11.7 scholarships to distribute among a total of 27 student-athletes at what percentage the head coach sees fit. Typically the scholarships are divvied up by portions and divided among team members.
"The TOPS program, to me, felt like it gave you three or four more scholarships to work with," Louisiana Tech baseball coach Greg Goff said. "It's a tremendous, tremendous advantage for the state of Louisiana baseball teams."
The TOPS program allowed Louisiana coaches to save scholarship money by filling out their rosters with in-state players who met the requirements of a 20 on the ACT and 2.8 GPA for a tuition waiver.
