I'd say State has a shite ton more catfish farmers than us. We're all lawyers according to them.

Depending on how much of that actually trickles down to the University, I'd say we are doing pretty good.

We were number one in overall merchandise last year, number two the year before that. Texas, Notre Dame, and Michigan all bouncing around the top as well.

The question that pops into my head is whether Bama was consistently in that company of peers pre Saban, or were they a tier lower than UT, Michigan, and Notre Dame?

I remember that as a kid, I never saw Bama gear on anyone who wasn't from Alabama. Unlike the ND,Michigan, FSU, and Miami gear that was all over.

ESPN's Darren Rovell is a well of random sports/business/media information, sometimes useful and sometimes not, but we're liking the data he shared today via Twitter: Wal-Mart's best-selling collegiate brands through the month of August.

Per Rovell:

1. Alabama
2. Ohio State
3. Arkansas
4. Georgia
5. Texas
6. Tennessee

Well, you don't buy t-shirts for games you lose, so most folks don't have as many game shirts to buy as Bama fans.
Then you factor in SEC championship shirts and NC shirts and there are even more opportunities. Really not all that surprising.
Win more games, you'll sell more merch.

Why do we care which fanbase has the most sidewalk WalMart fans.

BINGO!

That shirt is as close to a Bammer game as 90% of that fan base ever gets.

Just because you plan to buy a game shirt at the end of the 3rd quarter, doesn't mean you have to spend the money anyway after the game.
