Currently reading In the Garden of the Beast. It's not bad. It's about the American diplomat and his family during Nazi Germany.

Working on two books. The Regulars about the transition of the American Army from 1898-1917. And Rising Tide about the 1927 Mississippi River flood.

The twelfth planet by Zecharia Sitchin. Which is the first book of the series, Chronicles of earth.

He gives an alternate theory as to who we are, where we really came from, and why we were created.

He challenges every thing we as humans have ever been told and does a good job of providing factual evidence to back up his claims. Mostly through the deciphering of ancient clay tablets left behind by the Sumerians, then Assyrians, and then Babylonians. As well as from artifacts and information from younger civilizations after them like the Egyptians, Persians, etc. all the way down to modern man.

It's a thought provoking and interesting read. Many of the brightest professors, scientists, and archaeologists of this century have been unable to debunk what his literature lays out. Even if they don't believe his line of thinking. The guy has done an incredible job at citing sources and presenting factual evidence that can be proofed and checked by anyone wishing to do so.

Way out there, but a solid read so far.

To kill a mockingbird

Actually just finished it. Amazingly enough I went all through school having never been assigned to read that book.

I am a semi-avid reader away from school and had never read it.

All that said, it's great if you missed it before as I had. I would say it's in my top 5 definitely... probably top 3.

Cleopatra - A Life by Stacy Schiff

It's loosely based on the little bit of historical evidence we have of Cleopatra's reign. Pretty good read so far.

There's a little known short book called Operation White Star about the beginnings of the Vietnam war that is awesome. I would recommend it

Papillon

It's about a criminal's attempts to escape prison, being captured and sent to an even worse prison, rinse and repeat. Based on a true story although some facts are disputed.

It was made into a movie in the 1973 with Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.

God's Traitors

It's about "Elizabethan" Age England and Queen Elizabeth the 1st using her absolute power and adopting Protestantism as the official religion of England. She ordered Catholics be rounded up, imprisoned, and tortured until they renounced their beliefs. If they refused, they were executed.

I'm 58 pages in.
Pretty good so far. You always hear about the Spanish Inquisition with Catholics, but this book has given great insight into the unfathomable and often brutal extremes the queen took to "conform" her subjects.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I just started the 2nd book. I've never read a book that made me laugh out loud like I have with this series.

Fair Blows the Wind - Louis L'Amour. I'm liking it a lot so far.

I finished The Walking Drum by him a few weeks ago and was interested in more of his non-western works. Along with a very fun story that one in particular give some nice insight into the islamic influence of 11th and 12th century europe which is something that I think gets neglected in most classrooms.

Give Harry Turtledove's alternate histories a shot. Start with The Guns of the South. Philip K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle is awesome, too.
