UAB can't buy toilet paper to wipe their own arse without the graces of the BOT made up 100% of UA grads and you think that Ray Watts decided all on his own to cut three sports programs on a whim? Yeah, okay buddy

The fact that UAB people have the gall to criticize Alabama people when they originally started the war by hijacking the University of Alabama's medical school and rebranding it and going so far as to shut out UASOM alums from commencement activities shows who truly started the bushleague tactics. I'd love to cut UAB loose and give them all the independence they want and it will happen the second they give the medical school that they stole back to the main campus.

Once again, pure ignorance that you think UAB could do that without Alabama having the power to say no. It was 100% UA's to put the medical in Birmingham, seperate the main campus from it, and brand it solely under UAB.

They had to to make it worth a damn.

shite. After they made it what it is and only after they got away from the shitty UAT academics. If they gave it back, it would go to shite again and the talent that comes there sure as hell would go elsewhere.
UAT is a football program with an above average and bloated Junior college attached to it.

Whether you want to admit it or not, UAB is the medical school and the medical school is apart of UAB. Disassociating the two isn't really right. Rebranding the UAB medical school into...the UAB medical school since it sits on UAB's campus is/was the right thing to do. There have been anti-UAB happenings from the board for decades and are well documented in news articles dating back to the 1980s. UAB is just as much a deserving equal part of the Alabama system as UA is. There's really no need for the in-fighting or for UAB to not have a football program.

Finally, justice will be done and football will be restored to the dozens of blazers who attend the games.

if all the auburn uab fans had actually gone to the games, they might never have axed the program

I saw about 13,000 + fans posing as empty seats at Coleman Coliseum during Alabama's home NIT game this past year. Your president didn't shut down the basketball program due to this underwhelming support. You guys hired a coach who has never coached a college team for 3 million dollars a year instead.
If the administration/board had ever had any vision at all for UAB football, people just might have shown up more often. Regardless, UAB attendance was 5th in CUSA and higher than all the other non power programs in Alabama. Shut 'em all down!!!

LOL - Bama basketball averaged 10k a game last year with a crap product on the floor. 2x the average UAB football game. Bama basketball has a good tradition and people actually care unlike UAB.

Yeah, those tide pride points really draw in all those empty seats.
You don't seem to see the irony there. Bama's basketball program would suffer heavily without a football program attached to it. Just like UAB's will. This isn't the 1980s. You need a football program and a basketball program to have a decent conference in the South.

UABs basketball program has had pretty decent success. You don't need a football team to be a good basketball school. You will note that no one is suggesting UABs basketball program be shuttered.

Except that is exactly what is suggested by losing CUSA affiliation. Let me know what conference UAB will be in since the school is in Alabama. I've already shown why moving to the MVC with no football program will cost the same as staying in CUSA and keeping football.
Do you think it would be wise for UAB to pay generally the same money only to drop down to the 20th RPI ranked Sun Belt or the 30th RPI ranked Atlantic Sun? CUSA isn't great anymore, but it is still better than either of those. Is losing a football program worth going to the MVC? Probably not. If there was a Big East or an A10 invite on the table I could at least understand the argument.
You can't just shutter a football program inside of a bubble. College athletics don't work like that.
UAB basketball will have dropped from a top 10 basketball conference down to a sub 20 to 30 RPI ranked conference in only a decade's time if they don't stay in CUSA or end up in the MVC. That is a monumental failing by the people running it. I'm not sure that has even been accomplished before in any other school's history. Think about those implications :P.

So I guess that justifies throwing an estimated $75 million over the next few years alone to continue to support this loss making operation?.......or the other alternative is to spend even more money to actually make UAB competitive? Look at other urban schools within big systems like Texas or California and even they don't have anything like that....Why the frick would we want to build a competing program a mere 45 minutes away?
I an going to give you and every Barner in this thread a lesson in real politik. There is one, only one, football program within the University of Alabama system that matters.....and you know which one that is......
