How is it that you can lose weight while you sleep?

I have been running almost every day the last month or so trying to lose weight so I have been weighing myself much more than normal. I've moticed a few times that I have weighed myself before going to bed and then again when I wake up, and have weighed 2-3 pounds less in the morning (and this is before taking my morning shite).
How is this possible?

Digestion of food and absorption of nutrients maybe?

I get that, but 2-3 pounds?

Absolutely. 2-3 lbs is normal. If you weigh in after a morning workout (assuming you haven't drank a gallon of water) you'll weigh even less.

For one you're not eating/drinking at all while sleeping so you won't gain any weight during the night. Second if your sweating then you could lose water/weight out of your body that way. Finally every breath you take you're body you lose around .015 grams out of your body and if you multiply that by the hours you spend sleeping by # of breaths the body takes that .015 starts to add up.

Cut out carbs entirely (I know, frick that) and run 2.5 miles before bedtime ... You can lose even more while sleeping... Up to 5 lbs.

It's water weight brah. You'll have that back by lunch. Most people have a weight range of 3-4 pounds depending on how hydrated they are and what they just ate.

The same way that your car burns gasoline while idling, your body burns calories while sleeping just to keep itself alive. That, and getting up once or twice in the middle of the night to piss. To really track it properly, you have to weigh yourself at the same time every day, preferably first thing in the morning. I weigh myself daily and write it in a log. I may bump up a pound every now and again due to sodium and water retention, but as long as the TREND is downward, I'm good.

well assuming you don't die in your sleep your body's metabolism is active and you burn calories. if you've been exercising your metabolism is more active.

Because you are exhaling water vapor and perspiring for 6-8 hours without drinking anything.

Maybe you're sleep-pooping. Do you Ambien?
Before you go to bed at night, use a Sharpie and mark your toilet paper roll.
When you get up in the morning, see if your toilet paper roll still has a mark on it.
If it doesn't, you're sleep-pooping.

My resting metabolic rate is 1,600 calories. Meaning, if I slept all day, I would need 1,600 calories to maintain my current weight. I called bullshite on it too, but that's what they tested at the gym.

Water weighs 8.33 lbs per gallon. So a 16 oz bottle is about a pound. That'll give you a decent idea on how much your weight can fluctuate.

I lost a lb and a half every morning after I piss.

I know a woman's weight can fluctuate during menstration due to water rentention/etc by almost 6-7 pounds. As others have said, it's anything from absorbtion to sweating. You also have to account for meds you're taking or supplements that maybe dehydrate.
I will say it's not good to weigh yourself every day like that because of those daily fluctuations. You're better off weighing once a week at the same day at around the same time.
