Hopefully it should be a decent match up. I'm not overly thrilled about it because it's one of those games on National TV where if you win, you were supposed to, but if you lose, you get crushed by the media. Should be a decent start to Chubb's 2nd Heisman though

What's going down with the UNC academic scandal? Will it hurt there football program at all?

Got to agree. They barely made a bowl last season.
Against Rutgers.
To whom they lost.
Badly.
EDIT: After thinking about for a second more, maybe that's the kind of opener we want. Because they are a P5 team who made a bowl, they have to be taken at least a -little- seriously. But it is actually a tune-up game, which I think we need. Do we really allow the coaches to learn anything about our team by beating up on Coastal Northwest Puerto Rico State?

Should give Eason target practice against a quality opponent who hasn't necessarily been great on defense. I agree with you though about this:
There is no benefit to playing North Carolina. The only benefit to this game is to keep the other SEC teams from playing regular season games in an area where we need to win in recruiting I guess.

I certainly am. The only real drawback is we lose a home game, so I hate it for Athens losing that business, everything else is golden though.
-It's a "name" team in a power 5, so even though they aren't an elite team we still get more credit than another Buffalo or ULM
-It should be a win, which is always nice
-It gets more national exposure being it's the CFA kickoff game
-And for personal selfish reasons, my trip to the game will be 5 minutes instead of an hour and a half

Eason will only play mop up duty at the end of the game IMO. He certainly won't start.

Sure there is. It's a "quality" win compared to some 1AA scrub, and it will actually get our guys a good live action test to prepare them for SEC play.
IMO, there's no benefit to playing a big time team like ohio state or something like that. Our SEC schedule is tough enough as it is, and we haven't gone undefeated in 35 years. We don't need to make things unnecessarily hard on ourselves. Scheduling these mid-tier teams (ala Colorado, Arizona State, etc) is a good thing in a kickoff classic type scenario.

I'm stoked. It's a brand name team that all the world knows. It's also someone we should beat on National TV

Ehh I wouldn't go that far. Its a name school. Not a big name but one that national media and recruits would recognize.

UGA will get early season prime time national tv against a team we should hopefully be able to curb stomp. If we lose it will be awful, but we should win and if we do the whole country will see it. Plus it keeps Clemson and Bama out of Atlanta that weekend. I like it.

Living in tar heel land so I'm pumped. As long as we take care of business.

Hate to lose a home game for this, but it will beat sitting in the heat I guess.

A lot of people don't realize this but GA/UNC played each other quite often way back in the day.
Looked it up and they've played 30 times, GA with a 16-12-2 record.

Boring...but cool to see Eason kick off his tenure at UGA with a kickoff classic in the dome.

I assume you would rather play ULM or Southern

So...early favorite for our annual "shite the Bed" game, then? At least we'll get it out of the way early.
