Would you say the playoff was a success in year 1?

For me, I believe it worked to perfection. If we're still in the BCS era, it would've been Florida State and Alabama in the National Championship. It kept me way more involved throughout the season as well. I also love the concept of teams winning the Big Six bowls and still having the opportunity to win the National Championship.

Record ratings say yes but they sure need to button up that week to week process.

As expected, it was incrementally better than the BCS system but not as successful as it would be with enough slots to accommodate all conference champions. We'll see 8 teams soon enough.

I think it was perfect. Neither of the finalists would have made it under the old BCS and on top of that it punished the big 12 for not playing a title game.

Yes.
It'll never be perfect, but this was as close as we'll get--for the time being, anyway.
A fun year.

After the dust was settled, having the lowest seed win the title in year 1 was exactly what the playoff needed. Need to expand.

Mostly, yes, though the pre-playoff rankings was a bit off. I'd prefer, at most, a "pre-cg" ranking; otherwise, wait until the end of the regular season, like basketball.

Yes, I think so. It was a definite move in teh right direction. I might advocate 6 or 8, but that would be the absolute max.

Lets see:
-Bama fricked (would have had ticket to title game in BCS)
-FSU fricked (same reason)
-Big 12 fricked
It literally couldn't have gone better.

True, but it appears that they would not have gotten in without Ohio State being left out.
Honestly, they REALLY need to weigh SOS more. Of all the teams, FSU (the only undefeated one) had the most pathetic schedule. OF course, leaving out an undefeated champ of the ACC would've generated a MUCH larger outcry than the 1-loss champ of the Big 12.
The TCU/Baylor allusion to 2011 amuses me though.

I think it was pretty strong.
The other bowl games were meh this season (big ones anyway) so I'm overall negative about the postseason, but I don't think that has much to do with the introduction of the playoff.

Yes I do, it makes it where there is actually a TRUE National Champion.

No Bama championship, so yes.

Yes, but now on to six or eight!

It certainly does.
The playoffs killed the bowls. Who gives a shite about exhibition games when there are three whole games that really matter?
