I know I won't convince everyone, because there are still people here who think FSU and Clemson are potential SEC members.

There are never going to be 2 SEC teams in a 4 team playoff. The whole reason for the playoff committee specifically and the playoff in general are tho stop 1/9 from happening again, ever.

Looking at the last decade of BCS championships as the B1G or PAC12 commissioner, you see a problem. One conference is dominating the NC, and aside from beat them on the field, (which you can't) you cannot do anything to stop it. So the playoff was invented to allow 4 teams (theoretically the best 4) to play for the NC, not just the SEC and one other.

Of course, the BCS was never the real problem. The BCS was popular with the powers-that-be from 1996 until 2006. The problem became when the SEC took up 50%-100% of the slots for the next 8 years. Why did the SEC make it in? The voters of both polls (who controlled the majority of the BCS formula) put them there.

Thus the real problem was the AP poll and the Coaches Poll. The SEC's dominance is the result of that problem. How do we solve this problem? Form a committee large enough to appear impartial but small enough to be controlled. Give them instructions like 'ignore the polls', and 'focus on conference championships'. Then stack it with as many midwest and west coast people you can, and a token southern connection or two.

Say it with me: the point of the playoff committee is to select the most politically kosher teams for the playoff, not the best 4. There will be an SEC team in there, but never more than 1. Otherwise why not leave it to the AP poll? Because the polls have shown the powers-that-be that they cannot be trusted to ignore on field results and select non-SEC teams because they are historically prominent.

Just because you're salty because your team blows dick, don't try to rain on everyone else's parade who is having fun with the idea.

P.S. I quit reading after the topic.

There's no way 2 would get in today, but there's also a whole lot of football left. I don't think the odds are good at all and I'd certainly bet against it, but there is a "shot."

Well said, and what I have been saying for ages, but folks are just buying the spin and it will fall on deaf ears.

To be honest, I just don't think we know.

If Alabama or Auburn are 11-1, they'll be top 4 with a ton of momentum and a lot of hype. While we all fear the SEC getting screwed for perceived fairness, I still think you're underestimating how hard it'll be to choose a conference champ from a far inferior conference over an SEC power with the same record.

Why do you think all the pollsters rank the SEC high? Of course they know we will knock each other off during the season which saves their arse, but when you look at it objectively, even those 1/2 loss SEC teams would crush #'s 2-4 (provided they weren't other inclusive SEC teams).

There is an element of bias, that part I agree with b/c there are darlings in CFB. Alabama, tOSU, ND, etc.

Auburn Alabama Miss St have played a total of two games between the 4 of them thus far, there are another 4 losses to split amongst them. mathematically, no more than one can end undefeated, no more than two can end with one loss, (and only if none end undefeated.)

The way I see it, the best possible scenario for SECx2 playoff attempt is

Georgia v Auburn doesn't matter
Alabama over Auburn
Ole Miss over Auburn
Ole Miss over Miss St
Alabama over Miss St
Ole Mis over Georgia

leaving Alabama demanding a spot over teams from Big10, big12, and probably ND

I think it is very unlikely FSU drops a game, undefeated they are getting in, even if they win all of their remaining games by 1 point and Winston is kicked off the team. You just don't drop the defending undefeated champs out of a playoff that has double the spots it did the previous year

Obv SEC champ is getting in before bama, thats two spots down

so you are rooting for the Pac12, the Big12, Notre Dame, and the Big10 to provide only 1 team with better claim to a spot.

Pac12 and Big12 will probably provide one 1-loss team between the two of them. A team like Oregon isn't going to get passed over for Alabama, I have a hard time seeing Kansas St, TCU, and Arizona being passed over, but they don't have the national appreciation Alabama does, so who knows.

Michigan State is going to win out, they would be further bolstered of Oregon is the 1 loss rep mentioned above. Notre Dame could legitimately win out, and Alabama would absolutely lose out resume-wise to Notre Dame. Notre Dame is also #1 in national draw.

so we need the perfect SEC results to playout, we need the Big12 to eat itself, AND the Pac-12 to eat itself, and we need ND to lose a game

what odds would you place on all that happening? 1 in 200? The SEC isn't getting two teams into the playoff because it's not going to play out that way, not because there is a driving force from the nation to deny the SEC.

Why does an Aggie fan even care? The 4 team playoff is something you'll never see.

Hell, two ACC teams could get in this year. Well, one ACC team and one who plays a half schedule (whatever the frick that is).

But I disagree, two will get in at some point, if not this year.

You're an idiot. LSU and Alabama would have both gotten in the final four had we had a playoff in 2011. Bama was obviously the best team in the country after it all played out and LSU was ranked #1 and undefeated. While it was surely subjective before 1-9 who was the BEST team, there is no fricking way that an unbiased committee member could have put THREE other teams besides LSU ahead of Bama. Again, you sir, are an idiot.

You're spot on with the reasoning for fast-tracking the playoff. Remains to be seen how impartial they will be.

Problem is that the criteria is subjective and thus can always be argued as such by non-SEC people. Therefore you are probably right.

Duh, what, you just wake up or something?

The polls were subjective. The committee will be subjective. The ONLY objective way to form a playoff is to only allow conference champions - otherwise it's just a subjective group of people who are going to piss one part of the country off or another.

If the final polls look anything like the current, then there is no way in the world they could stop it from happening. It would be a greater tragedy than anything the prior BCS format had done.

Incredibly ignorant ones. The SEC stands to gain absolutely zero by adding either tater tech or the clown school bc of already having SCar and Florida. If we expand again, it will be so that we corner the market in 2 states that do not already have members in this conference. I don't know why some ppl have such a difficult time processing that.
