Can South Carolina bounce back to be a factor in the SEC?

Along with UGA, they were a trendy pick to win the SECEast. The saying goes its always better to lose early rather than late, but to lose at home like they did was a shocker.

I guess my real question is, can we write off USC for 2014, or does SOS still have any magic left.

It takes one win next weekend and they'll be right back in it. Yes, they have to travel to Auburn, but Georgia plays Auburn too.

They're still right in the thick of it.

We'll have to wait and see what the Scrooster says, he is the source for all things SCAR.

They lost to an awful UT last year and still managed 11 wins.

Never count out the OBC.

All they have to do is kick the shite out of the Dawgs in a couple of weeks and they're right back in it.

And that could actually happen.

Yes, they can and likely will be a factor in the SEC. Don't ever sleep on OBC.

A&M is going to make most defenses look bad. USC will be fine.

Did Spurrier die today?

You'd think the man has never suffered an embarrassing defeat or something.

Wouldn't surprise me in the last if they end up 9-3 by the end of the season

Dawgs got boat raced in Columbia in '12 and still made it to ATL. (Pretty sure we won the SEC that year...I missed the last 7 seconds of that game). No one associated w/ UGA is taking SC lightly.

Yes. I think they were looking ahead last week. Every team usually has a game where they don't show up. They have a better O line than Clemson and if anyone can expose our secondary, he can. I expect a shootout next week.

They lost to the best team in the country. I don't know why everyone is writing them off.

Yes, I don't see a Spurrier coached team being down for long. I mean some teams do go through rebuilding years. I just don't think they have the QB to win the East.

No ... we're not a factor nor are we capable "this season" of being a factor.

They have two options, essentially, and both require debunking history:

Reel off 7 conference wins in a row
Win 6 of 7 with the loss coming to AU

Both scenarios would require them beating UGA and UF. Richt has been pretty good against Carolina sans Marcus Lattimore. Carolina has struggled in The Swamp.

If they beat East Carolina and us, then they can really gain some confidence. That puts them at 2-1 and they follow that up with:

@ Vandy
Mizzou
@ Kentucky
BYE
Furman

before traveling to AU.

Their season basically comes down to the UGA game, which terrifies me. They'll be in desperation mode. Win that one and there are some big things to play for. Lose that one and their season could get even uglier.

Without a doubt. The young guys on D will improve. They kept it marginally close until the second half, and a few plays could have made it far closer (onside kick for instance.)

Scar is not as bad as their first game indicated, and we are not as good as some are now saying... Typical of talking heads in the media though.
