Number of SEC teams in the top 25 of various sports:
Baseball: 8
Football: 7
Golf (M): 6
S&D (M): 5
T&F (M): 8
Golf (W): 6
S&D (W): 7
T&F (W): 6
Gymnastics: 6
B-Ball(W): 5
Softball: 8
Men's Basketball: 2 WTF?!?!?!
Way too much talent in SEC states to have only 2. Seriously, given the dominance in almost every other sport...2 is pitiful. Mizzou included.
And if some of those numbers are off, IDGAF. Took most of them from the NCAA's website and sometimes I forget how to count.

Yeah, the SEC dominates almost all sports areas, but almost all the schools are going to place more emphasis on their basketball programs.

we're ranked in every sport but Gymnastics (we don't sponsor the sport) and Men's Hoops. Some of y'all need to step it up. We can't do everything

I think it's more an issue of coaching at this point. Mark Fox actually starts coaching like he has a pulse and Georgia is sitting at 3rd in the SEC.
The funny thing is for as terrible as the SEC can be in basketball, the teams that do make the tournament typically make decent runs.

SC is top 5 in.
I think we're also ranked in one of the golf's and maybe tennis but I can't be entirely sure.

The longer you are in this conference the more you will realize the SEC is NOT a basketball conference.. Sorry to upset you
It's football & baseball in the South

Why do you think they are the top 2 for most ranked teams per sport & basketball is last

I agree. No excuse we should be better (and we spend the money). It may just be a mentality. I remember when I was in HS and Alabama was ranked like #2 in the country in Men's BB and they cut away from the basketball game to show the spring practice football game of a fairly mediocre Bama football team.

You're right it doesn't make sense. And I think it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The rest of the country and the media loves to perpetuate it but us as SEC fans are helping them.
"The SEC is so good at football that they must be horrible at basketball."
The SEC is not a good basketball conference, but how much worse is it than the ACC or the Big-10 this year? There is a lot of parity IMO. Few elite teams. Florida is one of them, best team in the country that I've seen.
As has been said, though. Our bubble teams that probably won't make it aren't just pushovers. Mizzou or Tennessee could get in and win a few. Even LSU can even look as good as anyone some nights, and then look as bad the next.

SEC screwed the pooch in volleyball this year. 8 teams got invited - about 1/8th of total - yet none made it to the round of 16.
