For those who grew up in Alabama, how did you become a Bama or Barn fan?
I'm assuming most became fans of their school because their family or friends were fans and through association became fans as well. But are there some of you out there that became a Bammer or a Barner by other means?

My dad's cousin married a MLB that played under the Bear. So my pops, and family have always been huge gumps.

Most did by friends and family, others have converted by attending the other university. And then there are a few sidewalk bitches, mainly chicks, that switch.

Grew up a Bama fan. That changed after my first Iron Bowl. It was mainly the fans that did it for me. I've never been much of a bandwagon guy.....

Both sides of family were Bama fans. My Dad's little brother, my Uncle, graduated from there. My Dad went there before joining the Army. My great Uncle was the beat reporter for Alabama for the Mobile Register. I went to Bama but finished school at South Alabama.

At the age of three in Alabama your parents give you an option, "pull for they're team" or move out and buy your own double wide.

Never made that decision myself, family full of Bama fans. Except my dad who went to Auburn, the only family member to attend either. Sidewalker for life

Same with me and Alabama. Both parents went to Alabama and I grew up going to football and basketball games from the time I was about 8 years old. I also had a great uncle and uncle who played basketball at Alabama.
My best friend grew up an Alabama fan (his parents went to Alabama) but pulled a Landon Collins and followed his middle school/high school girlfriend to Auburn. I also have a couple of friends that grew up Bama fans, graduated from Auburn, but are still die hard Alabama fans.

Do you still pull for Bama outside the IB?

3rd gen Auburn grad, it's all I ever knew. Grew up going to watch Bo play.
My dad said he'd pay for any school but bama. He meant it, my sister went to bama and he hardly said two words to her in two years.

My grandfather's cousin played at Auburn I think 1956-1959, so his family have all been fans since then. My mother's family were all bama fans because they moved into the state during the bahr years.
When my parents got married, my dad converted my mom, just as I converted my wife whose family are all bama fans.
I have noticed, and this is just purely my experience, that the chances of a bama chick marrying an Auburn dude and converting seem to be a lot higher than an Auburn chick marrying a bama dude and converting, among the friends and family I know who have gone into mixed marriages.
I was going to be the first person in my family to go to Auburn, since the 50's, until UAB threw all kinds of cash at me to come to school there and I couldn't afford to pass that offer up.

GGrand father, Grandfather, Grandmother, Father, Mother, step-father, two uncles, two brothers, sister, 19 first cousins, 59 2nd-5th cousins that I know of, and of course moi, all went to Alabama (I must be old fashioned... I cannot call the school "Bama"... it is disrespectfull).
However, I grew up in Gainesville Florida a Gator Fan until I went to Alabama after Vietnam. But even in Gainesville, no one ever liked Auburn and everyone always referred to them as a cow college. NO ONE likes Auburn, anywhere.
After graduating Alabama, I lived for a time in Fairhope Alabama... where I came face to face with the reality in the State of the iron bowl. Even healthy teenage girls take sides early on.
It is ugly out there in the hustings of Alabama, I mean drankin' smash mouth done fall down after beating the hell out of them that has it commin' ugly. About the first time some back woods overall wearing grease ball farmer gets in your face or follows you around yelling insults, your patriotism meter for your school magically pegs out.
In Alabama it is partly a class thing. U of Alabama is the school of Drs and Lawyers. Auburn is the school of mechanics, farmers, animal husbandry... and their damn mascot, the "war eagle," is a symbol borrowed from a damnyankee regiment that happened to be burning their way through Alabama about 1865... which tells you a lot about Auburn, aka Alabama Ploytech, aka Alabama A&M, aka Auburn U of Georgia.

Capstone or cow college, was pretty easy choice. Kidding "barners".
