I've always been interested and even highly skeptical and cynical of ESPN's continued efforts here. They're more than a decade late behind Scout and Rivals and historically have felt they can carve out some audience and revenue with little expertise, support, and differentiation. The basic rationale has always been "Well we're ESPN, THE worldwide leader in sports, so just our logo on a site and everything is going to be gangbusters!"

I am glad we now have one less prospect ranking system out there.
I am a firm believer that the ranking system is an okay tool for college football, but it has been proven numerous times over the years that the rankings do not always mean success on the field. Many young athletes who may have only been a 1 or 2 star have absolutely dominated the playing field.

I will agree with you, I was simply stating that the way ESPN ranked their players was ridiculous and that they were far from being accurate in their line of thinking.

People are gonna lose their jobs, this is not good news at all.

How will Mack Brown recruit?

agreed. 247, Rivals, and Scout is plenty enough

Mack Brown will probably recruit the same way he has been doing recently. Not paying any attention to any recruits who have long desired to play for the longhorns. Winston.... JFF......
He will not have to worry about it much longer though, he will be enjoying a nice relaxing vacation somewhere getting paid a TON because Texas fired him.

I feel like Awful Announcing is being perhaps a little misleading. They are shutting down the individual team sites with the exception of USC's (wearesc.com).
ESPN IS NOT however, shutting down the national recruiting aspect of ESPN and will still have horribly misinformed rankings, Tom Luginbill and the recruiting shows on ESPNU reporting things that happened 2 or 3 weeks ago as breaking news.

I think those are sufficient enough, and I also think that people get ridiculous expectations when they see that their school has a good class according to these systems. Unrealistic expectations lead to extreme meltdowns on this site. That is quite annoying.

So I won't have to listen to Matt Millen jerk off to ESPN 300 recruits every opening game of the season?
