I see no difference in someone referring to a major league team as we and someone referring to a college team they root for as we.

Times have changed bro. It's all about money and the "sidewalk fans" are where a lot of that money comes from.
Have you really given more money to the school than the average student? If so, you're just wasting money and that's pathetic. How many games do 'sidewalk fans' attend? Is there a certain number of games you have to go to to walk on the sidewalk? Can you buy scalped tickets? I've been to more Bama games than 75% of the fanbase, I've been to 4 Can I be a sidewalk fan of the greatest college football program of all-time?

Love that. Let me know if you ever dump your husband.

T-shirt fans are pathetic.
Don't be angry not everyone had to endure some form of homoerotic hazing to be a college football fan (I know you'll say something along the lines of "how original", but you know as well as I that the jizz jar/bestiality/corps rape jokes cut you weirdos deep).

No the best is when you have tshirt fans from other schools downgrading your school's worth (academia, athletics) only to find out that A) They never went to college or B) They went to some obscure community college in buttfrick nowhere Texas (pretty much the same as not going to college).
THAT is what gets annoying.

Best of both worlds. I'd like to pull for UK but I have no ties to them. Your kids will be both. That's a helluva combination.

Is that another requirement to walk the sidewalks with the other Bama fans? I want to know! What do I have to do?! I want to root for a good team so I can feel like I have moar authority over other fans of less fortunate programs. I'll do anything. How many times must I pat my back?

i say "we" because i actually competed as a crimson tide athlete... obviously i no longer represent my team athletically, but i prefer to think of myself as slightly higher than the average student or alum, with regards to use of this term.
long story short if you utter the words we won, you better stand up and say we lost too... and never talk too much shite to a former athlete if you weren't yourself. "we" don't like that very much lol

Um, I wasn't in the corps. You do realize those losers only represent around 4-5 percent of the student body.

i say we. im a current student but i have always said we when referring to my teams. if you dont identify yourself with whoever you root for, you are doing it wrong

It's all just a person's opinion. We all think we are right about things. If we didn't we'd spiral into depression since we'd be walking around with our heads down thinking, "I'm worthless because I'm wrong about things".
It's human nature for people to gravitate towards sucess such as Michael Jordan, Notre Dame, Bama, Arnold Palmer, Pele, Gretzky etc. Very few people want to get excited and cheer for a team that loses, it's frankly no fun.
So, fans of teams with little or limited sucess will naturally have a fan base composed of a much higher percentage of haughty alumni who look down on sidewalk fans.

That's a shame. Being an athlete does not make you 'higher than the average student or alum'. Unless you were a football player. But if you were on the track team or swimming or even basketball team then you are not a 'higher' person with regards to this term. What makes you better than the student who is going to college to become a teacher, lawyer, engineer, or someone who is in the marching band? Every student represents their university. If you were not a member of the football team, then you have no better right to say 'we' than any other student.
