Started watching the LSU game, looks like they started with a 4 man front and switched to a three man and tried to disguise who was blitzing and who was covering out of the back 8. But I haven't finished the first half yet.

Containment and discipline.
Your lbs have to stay honest too.
He's slippery so if he hits that corner he's gone.
Keep him inside with your speed and he can either run back or forward.
And if he runs forward you collapse that pocket on him.
If he hits that corner he's going all dipsy doodle Big 12 style and doing that will set off a really ugly chain of events.
I'm talking hand signals, 1950's looking boarding school uniforms and cheer boys.

Disguise the pressure using 4-man fronts and nickle/dime packages. Don't pressure him into running. Let him run out of options, look to run but have nowhere to go (contain). Don't get behind him on the edges, and USE MAN COVERAGE.
It's not hard. You just have to be patient and be in good shape or have some solid backups.

First, you have to throw Florida out the window. JFF's first college game ever, team's first game in new system, and coaches already said half the playbook wasn't even available to run.
LSU was successful keeping Johnny in the pocket and taking away his first option. He gets claustrophobic and then wants to run.
Unfortunately, Kliff has corrected this and will now run it right down your throat with only 4-5 defenders in the box.
Best bet is to give the center pressure. Being in shotgun, when there is different looks by the def and the center feels pressure, the snaps get errant. Rhythm gets out of whack for JFF.
Better get TOs....or it will be a long night.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconmoon.gif)

Mush rush
Spy him with a nickel or dime back, not a linebacker (we used Micah Eugene)
Tight coverage on his WRs (they have no game breakers with speed)
Don't fall too far behind from their inevitable fast start

The same defense Alabama used with great success to shut down the running threat that Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, and Denard Robinson posed.

Force him to be a pocket passer.

Once Chavis went to the Mustang Package, it was all over.

Sit back and wait for him to come to you. Dont chase the little sucker all over the field. Stay in your rush lanes. Play tight man to man.

If Bama takes away Manziel's option to run, he becomes a Freshman qb trying to read a Kirby Smart/Nick Saban secondary. Put a spy on Manziel and let him throw. Eventually, he'll throw a pick or two. Meanwhile, Bama runs the ball down their throat while mixing in some play action stuff. They'll run the clock, win the game and everybody's happy. Well, everybody that counts anyway. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcool.gif)
