Not so fast my friend

Go look at the list of their senior devs that have recently left. It’s bad

First, the last few years have had some really great game releases. Have there also been shitty releases? Of course, but who cares? Just don't buy them. Let those studios fail. As long as there are enough good games released to keep you entertained, and speaking for myself I can't even keep up with the new games I want to play, I would say gaming is in a great place.

I was more referring to big budget releases. There are plenty of good games in the AA and indie spaces but it seems like most blockbuster releases are big letdowns or performance nightmares at release. For every Elden Ring or Baldur's Gate 3, you have a ton of Starfields, Assassin's Creeds, Suicide Squads, Anthems, etc. Or you have a Cyberpunk/No Mans Sky deal where it takes them years to fix the game. Even storied franchises have releases that, while not "bad," have eroding quality - as we've seen with Mass Effect, Fallout, Diablo, Final Fantasy, et al

Outside of FromSoft, there aren't many AAA devs that you can just blindly trust anymore

quote:

"big studios" are vastly bigger than they used to be. It's pretty much axiomatic in design work that the more hands touch a project, the less interesting and unique it's going to be.

Yes, this is a large part of the problem. The industry as a whole needs smaller scale, more focused experiences. Publishers do not want that though

quote:

a lot of these people are actually talented they are just completely suffocated by these large publishers.

Yep.

As development costs increase, mass market appeal is emphasized and less creativity is allowed. Games begin to use all the same tropes and mechanics and all AAA games begin to fit the same mold
This game has renewed my faith in gaming. I'm buying on Steam too just to support them

Gaming is in a bad state, and I don't see it getting any better.

It's in a very bad place

Expedition 33 has given me some renewed hope, but it's sad that the majority of the "great" games I've played in recent years have come from small indie studios and solo dev efforts. They're the only ones doing creative shite now

Meanwhile the GOTY just dropped for $45 at launch

Wish more games were priced based on scale and scope. I'd be fine paying $80-100 for something like GTA6, but I'm not paying $80 for some shitty mailed in ubisoft copy/paste schlock. Games go on sale incredibly quickly now (unless you're Nintendo), so it's not a huge deal

These days, buying games at launch is retarded. You're paying full price for the worst version of game when you can pick it up a few months later for $20-30 less with all the QOL patches already released. The only time I buy games at launch is when I want to support a particular studio

They're pretty good, but overpriced and I feel like dogshit every time I eat them.

I’ll never understand why game devs think nerfing player damage is a good path for difficulty. I don’t mind the 3x all that much, though having a 2x tier would be nice. But let me do my damage. Raising the difficulty should require more skill, not just turn fights into slogs.

It's because they're lazy and it's ridiculously easy to implement

Remember Ninja Gaiden Black? Look at how complex the difficulty implementation is: LINK

Each difficulty level had exclusive enemies and reworked item locations and mechanics. You fight late game enemies from Normal in the first level on Hard. Enemy projectile quantities and velocities are increased. Some bosses get adder enemies. Some of the hardest enemies like the Berserker don't even appear until Very Hard or Master Ninja. It made each new playthrough so fresh and engaging.

One of my proudest platinums. Insanely hard

Got here last night. I got the strongest sakapatate down to 1hp on my first try and thought "that wasnt so bad," only to have him smoke me 5 or 6 times in a row. No-hit his arse after though
Oh baby. Can't wait to finish Ex33 so I can play
First two were absolute dogshit, amazing that they made a 3rd
I'm at 18 months no sticker and haven't gotten a second look

I just finished it and I honestly believe it's one of the best shows I've ever watched regardless of medium.

I’d agree.

First 3 seasons are peak storytelling. One of the best original scores ever as well. Going to see the concert in November at Carnegie Hall

Collateral
Magnolia
Color of Money
Eyes Wide Shut
Interview With The Vampire

I miss when he actually took on some creative risks/challenges. He's a very, very versatile actor and he's chosen to relegate himself solely to blockbuster franchise schlock. Not that the MI movies are bad, I just liked seeing him in a variety of roles in the past

I know many will probably disagree with me, but that was the least combat-effective SEAL team I've ever seen portrayed, BEFORE the IED blast.

Because it's not some Hollywood glamorization of urban combat like every other military movie ever made where the Americans are gunning down countless hadjis LOL. It's a painstaking reenactment of a real event that happened with the utmost commitment to accuracy based on the accounts of those involved. Vastly different creative imperative

They definitely had some that were scared, and they had a few that stepped up in the moment like the new guy and the asian from Alpha Two.

I'm not sure they even showed an Iraqi getting shot. They weren't trying to doll things up and have the SEALs just annihilate everyone as is usually portrayed. It was a faithful effort to depict the chaos that is urban combat. All the best training in the world still doesn't fully prepare you for it.
