As Georgia wrapped up its spring game, Kirby Smart shared a final message to his team.
“Be safe tonight. And be smart,” Smart told DJ Shockley on the broadcast following the game. “Be your brother’s keeper and take care of each other.”
It would seem former Georgia wide receiver Zachariah Branch did not heed that advice.
The former Georgia wide receiver, who hopes to hear his name called in this week’s NFL draft, was arrested on Sunday on one charge of obstructing public sidewalks/streets - prowling and one charge of obstruction of a law enforcement official. Both are misdemeanors.
Per the Athens Clarke County Arrest log, Branch was booked at 1:26 a.m. on Sunday, April 19 and released on $39 bond at 3:44 a.m. ET.
Georgia declined to comment on Branch, which is typical, as he is a former player of the program. Branch was in attendance for Georgia’s G-Day scrimmage on Saturday, as he was seen signing autographs for fans throughout the afternoon.
A full police report of the incident has not yet been released.

Nothing good ever happens after midnight

I’ve been told that misdemeanors aren’t actual crimes

Man, he probably cost himself some money. He has been garnering draft hype too. Hard to imagine someone being so stupid, but young men often times are the worst decision makers.

Is it really that damn easy to get arrested in Athens? I like to shite on uga as much as anyone but a crime that requires less than $50 bail is nonsense.

NFL Network has obtained the police report on the misdemeanor charges against Zachariah Branch, who was arrested while standing on a public sidewalk for not moving far enough when a police officer asked him to move:
“A male, later identified as Zacharia Branch, continued to stand on the sidewalk without making an attempt to move. I continued to give Zacharia Branch verbal commands to move from blocking the sidewalk and advised that if he did not, he would receive a citation for blocking the sidewalk. Zacharia Branch smirked, then stepped backwards and to the right, then remained standing upon the public sidewalk, so as to obstruct, hinder, and impede free passage upon the sidewalk as well as impede free ingress/egress to or from the adjacent places of business. Due to those actions and Zacharia Branch’s failure to comply with multiple verbal lawful commands, he was placed under arrest for misdemeanor Obstruction of LEO and received a citation for Obstructing Public Sidewalks.”

So he moved back and to the right but that wasn’t enough at 1am on. A public side walk so they arrested him? The frick?

Not for what is almost certainly just a normal case of a cop on a power trip.

Yeah, Georgia has a terrible problem with all the speeding and the other crap going on, but this is a bs charge. Cop should receive a Code Red.

arrest by local yokels.
This is why IDGAF in the slightest when these articles about "zomg 10000 UGA players arrested!!! Culture problem in Athens!?!?" surface every week. Because no other schools deal with the same shite that UGAPD/ACCPD hand out.

ACCPD needs to be investigated
