The team just wins the game to get to the playoffs because the playoffs are too long and baseball/basketball series usually have a back and forth win/loss rhythm which isn't great for a movie.

Many more of them dislike Sophie Cunningham. They also left off Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Brittney Griner, Candace Parker, and Cynthia Cooper so it's more likely a very lazy job rather than malice.
