Was just announced on USC’s message board and confirmed by ON3. No link yet as he just died apparently.

He was another national treasure and a true one of a kind.

I know there’s lots of wise as well as funny quotes from him. One of my favorites is the opening of his coaches show, after a 17-16 loss to severe underdog Rice, where he opened with “Welcome to the Lou Holtz show, unfortunately I’m Lou Holtz.” wish I could find video of it.

Another one of the greats gone but not forgotten.

This is the pic I also chose when sending the news to my friends. We definitely didn't get him at his peak but 2000/2001 were magical years for a young gamecock fan who had just gone to every game of 1-21 streak. Back when holding hands meant something and beating Miss St meant the world. Such simpler times. I mourn him and the times where he was in my world.
