A good Catholic which some of us value. Never rooted for a team he coached for, and saw that dreadful clip of him chewing out that poor intern reporter which pissed me off. However, we all deserve grace, can seek salvation in our Lord, and wouldn’t want my worst moments filmed on camera.

The last twenty or so years of his career he kind of played the cantankerous old argumentative guy on his show.
And at Notre Dame he was kind of a "Lord Lou" type of guy...
But before that... he was pretty much a stand up comedian who happened to be a football coach. He has some great one liners.
I remember that the winter of 1977-78 was really brutal in this part of the country. Easily the coldest winter of my adult life...
It was Holtz first year at Arkansas. After that winter he quipped "Frank Broyles told me that if I came to Arkansas there would be some days in the winter I wouldn't even need to wear a coat. He was right... I needed a parka".
It was particularly funny at the time for those of us who had gone through that winter.

Always liked coach Holtz, more than a coach, he was a family man that had a strong faith in God and that's how he conducted himself.

I see Keith Olbermann, maybe the biggest doucebag in America, is being his usual self.
What a miserable, pathetic human being.
Olbermann the arse

I was 14 when coach Holtz led the Hogs to an historic win over OU in the Orange bowl. To this day that's the most exciting game I've watched. Thanks coach, RIP.

Unreal. There is no bigger cocksucker on this planet than Keith Olbermann.

I saw him at a motivational speech in LA in the late 90's and he was by far the best speaker. A class act.
College football lost a treasure.
