Last night. Wife cried her blue eyes out and I sang them “Thank you very much”and we cheered each other. It’s a mind ferk. Timber piled 10 ft. high on every street on just about every street in Oxford. Hurricane level damage. 8 days of hope still here. Cajun Navy set up behind my house at the school and served jambalaya and chili to old folks and folks that were cold and in the dark.
We had crews from Alabama, Kentucky, and the Cajun Navy and some free lance workers from as far as west Texas, Nebraska, Pennsylvania. Also many Ole Miss students came and were chainsawing and working hard in old folks’ yards and such. Good Americans and SEC folks, brethren helping out. Thanks if any of you know any these folks.

Glad you made it through. 15 days is a long time.
A bad ice storm is one of the worst disasters IMO, you can have hurricane type damage to trees and the power grid, plus you can't get around on top of it.

What the hell is wrong with Mississippi! That’s beyond ridiculous!

That’s what everyone is saying. Some still out. This is and has been unacceptable: They sent the extra crews that were here on CoOp to Nashville with 100k out. They maybe got out bidded I’m not sure how it works but there’re people still out.

You're a quality person because you have GRATITUDE!
So easy to complain and curse, but it takes character to recognize all the good! Blessings to you and your wife.

Thank you brother! We need ‘em.
I put up the stars and stripes up today and my wife said, why are you doing that?
I said it is a symbol that we are not beaten, and we will persevere, because we are Americans.
This is our symbol to all of us, and your neighbors and state, but is also a symbol to the world that we are not weak, but we are strong.
The thing is the rest of the world suffers like this all the time. Talk about tough.
I’ll be honest, I could survive in this shite for several more weeks. My wife, that’s where the tire meets the road. Our wived (at least mine) can’t take ruffing it like like that.

If you haven't heard, LK left for the steelers already. :)
But for real, wow, had no idea it was that bad just few hours away me. Those Cajun navy folks are awesome. really hope life gets better for you and that area soon.

Glad you're back, no power sucks.
It's not just Mississippi. Here in Houston, power goes out anytime the wind blows. These big power companies only care about the bottom line and doing stuff as cheaply as they can. If people suffer every now and then, so what?
Gotta get a generator when we can afford it

Congrats!
When Helene hit here, it was a week for us. Not easy during the summer with parents who need their medicine kept cold.

Wow, didn't even know that was going on.
I've had to deal with extended time with no power due to hurricanes and know how totally amazing it is when power finally comes back on.
Welcome back to civilization.

Glad you got your power back. Hopefully they upgraded stuff as they repaired to keep it from being so bad in the future.
I grew up out in the country, and power outages would often last days. We had an electric pump on the well. I’d haul water from a spring my grandfather walled in with a masonry pipe.
One of the few upsides of subdivision living is all of the power being underground. It has to get bad for us to loose power. We had some transformers blow nearby during the ice storm, and they had us back within a few hours.

Exactly. That's why they can't wait to tack on that storm restoration fee.

When you get ice like that it just absolutely damages everything. I imagine a lot of areas that are more rural were hard to access with trees down as well. We had a similar ice storm in 2009 and even in a major metro area had no power for two weeks.
OP, glad you’re back on. Nothing more miserable than no power when it’s cold.
