Miss State has a 77% acceptance rate. Compare that to Ole Miss with a 99% acceptance rate.
Why is this?

If folks want to pay money to go to school here, why should we stop them?

JSU is the Harvard of Mississippi now that Harvard has enacted race-based discrimination. Scholars galore. Sure, Mississippi State has the highest ACT scores, but diversity is our strength!

I don't know how Millsaps can possibly survive much longer. The enrollment is under 600.

Ironic considering LSU has an acceptance rate of 74%

Its been explained many times.
The Mississippi schools got hit with a federal lawsuit that requires the same admission rate for all eight public institutions. Obviously the lower ones arent going to raise theirs so State and Ole Miss have to lower theirs.
Mississippi State has a carve out that Ole Miss does not have. The Engineering school has a tougher requirement, which brings MSU's admission rate down while Ole Miss has near universal acceptance.

As the result of the 1970’s civil rights Ayer’s case all 4 year public Mississippi universities have the same acceptance criteria. If you can almost walk upright and sign your name, you’re in.
State has a lot of smart kids from out of state applying for the Engineering and Meteorology programs and it gets somewhat competitive. Conversely, OM has a bunch of dumb rich kid out of state applicants who couldn’t get into their own state schools.
Despite recent woes, Millsaps, my Alma mater, maintains a less than 60% acceptance rate. Go Majors!!

There is a thread on the first page of this forum that you really need to check out. It has a very interesting graph depicting literacy rates in the US.
PS Missouri looks a lot like Mississippi.
Maybe yall actually belong in the SEC, after all????

At one time Millsaps was regarded as the best college in the tri-state areas of Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. I haven’t heard much about them recently, but at one time it was expensive to go there hard to get into and had roughly 800 students.

It is a sad state at Millsaps. We were close to 1300 students when I attended in the late 80s. One horrible president at Millsaps and Ole Miss providing an outstanding honors program have about closed the school.

At one time, Millsaps had the highest percentage of Rhodes Scholars of any school in the country.

Oh boy. This stupid arse thread again from someone who knows frick all about anything.
Ole Miss and State have the exact same entrance requirements, as does every public university in the state of Mississippi. So if you can get into Alcorn, you can get into Ole Miss or State. The schools don’t set their entrance requirements.
Ole Miss gets a lot of applicants that meet those entrance requirements and a lot of them are from out of the state.
State having such a lower acceptance rate means they have a lot of dumbasses that want to go to school there
