The ADs had to preserve the conference championship game. If Bama didn’t get in then there would be a scenario where a team in Bamas position would decline to play in the conference championship game.

This is it. Too much money in conference championship games for them to be cancelled or for teams to start opting out.

They wouldn’t decline but the sec cg would be reformatted or cancelled all together. If you made the conf ch an automatic birth id let my top two or three that are likely playoff bound rest and then put the next two teams ranked in conference play for an automatic bid.

Those games are now exhibitions.

BYU was punished for playing in their conference championship game but Bama isn’t? Doesn’t make sense

Yes they would

Other teams would jump at the chance to prove themselves in another exhibition

Bama certainly didn’t actually earn a spot

That's such a load of BS.

Bama got in on name only and should have been left out.

Losing a conference championship game shouldn't disqualify a team. Getting blown out in that game to go along with losing to a dog-shite FSU team should.

I am surprised they have two rematches in the first round and potentially a third in the next round.

BYU was not in the playoffs before their game. BYU was not in the playoffs after their game.

The conference games need to come with a bye or something.

When it goes to 16 teams, take 1 and 2 of each 4 conferences and give them the auto bid. 3-6 play on CCG weekend in each P4 conference so that you end up with 4 teams that equal to 16.

G5 can go start their own playoff because they’re fricking this whole thing up. They’ll never win a natty.

It is BS because it was “political”. Bama probably shouldn’t have been more than a fringe team to begin with. But, tbh, neither JMU nor Tulane should be in it either if it was truly about getting the best teams in.

This will be the impetus and excuse for breaking away for the superconference.

Does the SEC Championship play the 2 best record teams ? Or is it still East vs West? Will they go to 2 best record teams in future?

This was all about the ACC having representation in the playoff. If Virginia had won, Bama would have dropped one place and ND would have been in; No way the the ACC gets in two teams. The the entire process is a sham and the fact that JMU is in the field shows that the prior elite members set up poor criteria & parameters for selection.

Sweet melt. Why would an LSU fan ever even care about the playoffs?

I agree with this wholeheartedly. Giving schools who play bad teams all year and punishing other teams like Vanderbilt for playing a tougher schedule sucks. Plus G5 schools are not as vested in football or don’t have the funds to compete. Giving them their own playoff and and Champiinship game would be awesome and more CFB. Their regular season could remain the same where they still play power 4 conferences in non conference games.

Big difference there was BYU lost to the same team twice by similar amounts.

Bama beat UGA in Athens and then lost the rematch. There games are not the same. Plus BYU was at #11 they weren’t getting in anyway.

Besides the fact penn state was not the co-champ in 2014, good call, Nostradamus!!

quote:

Penn St was left out after they won the B10 championship. The B12 Co-champs in 2014, both one loss teams, missed the dance. No one will blink twice if the SEC runner-up with three losses misses the cut...Bama was a bubble playoff team going into the game. Playing poorly and getting beat should have consequences.
