2013 is the first time I remember seeing it. I suspect it was a Freeze era recruiting thing.

Honestly, I find all 3 years to be reasonable claims.
Won the Sugar Bowl all 3 years in an era when bowl games were not a factor in either the AP or UPI polls. 1959 they lost to LSU in the famous Halloween night game but got revenge in the Sugar with the OG 21-0. 1960 only stumble was a tie against LSU and a tie is not a loss. 1962 they lost or tied no one.
Seems they were a victim of Yankee media bias.

You know.... I would nail Oprah if she looked like this right now.

1959- Syracuse went undefeated... So you really can't say Ole Miss should have gotten it over them...
1960- Ole Miss undefeated with a tie had the best record. Nobody else was undefeated... so yes..
1962- USC(w) was undefeated like Ole Miss. Ole Miss has a claim... but USC deserved it as well.

None of them are legit. You can't just go back in history and say - this game now counts towards the national championship when in fact the national championship was awarded basically a full month before the game was even played.
So it doesn't matter if they won the Sugar Bowl all 3 years. They were reward games, not season games. They weren't played directly after the season because they weren't meant to be part of the season.
Yes it sucked at times during the poll era when you got overlooked. But that's just the way it was. The fact of the matter is those were the standards of the day, either you won an AP or UPI/Coaches. If you didn't, then sorry but you didn't win the National Championship.
The only reason they claim it now is to try and make their trophy rooms look more impressive. It's like wearing fake jewelry.
And yes, Alabama should not claim 1941 and if it was up to me it would be removed for the same reasons.

Got no problem with split titles in an era where it was impossible to settle it on the field.
That’s my point. Ole Miss has legit claims to the title for all 3 years. Not as a unanimous champ but a share of the championship.
And Eli didn’t even fall down!

I have no problem with you saying it is revisionist history to suddenly care about old title claims.
I am willing to indulge them in their ultimately irrelevant claims about pre-integration titles.

We’re both tied for second in Sugar Bowl wins Tiger and you only have 3 more appearances in the South’s premier bowl than us.

UCF finished undefeated in 2017. That was a magical national championship.

In 1960 LSU was a 5-4-1 team they tied with. All 4 of those losses right before they played Ole Miss. Ole Miss had a win over #7 Arkansas. They also had a win over Tenn, but they only finished ranked in the Coaches poll at #17(they only ranked top20 back then).
Minnesota beat the #2 team, and it's loss was to #15/19.
Minnesota had a better loss/tie and a better win. Voting was close, but Minnesota got the nod in both the AP and Coaches poll.
That's just how it was.
In all of these years Ole Miss avoided playing Alabama.
In 1959, #10 Alabama was 7-1-2, lost to Georgia, tied with Vandy and Tenn.
In 1960, #9 Alabama was 8-1-1, lost to Tenn, tied with Tulane
In 1962, #5 Alabama was 9-1, with a 1 point loss to GT.

But there are actual reasons the voters voted the way they did. The people who followed the games at that time are the ones who did it. Now you want to come along years later and say - well I think it should be this way, so that's what it is. Even though the entire basis of your arguments is based solely on records without any context around it and the reasons why the people who followed it week by week voted the way they did.
And they didn't always agree either. Teams would receive 1st place votes in the top 2 or 3 spots often. That's why it goes to the ones with the most points among them. It's a consensus.
Much of which is largely based on how you view the teams today and your own biases towards the brands of today.

I found this cool pic on r/CFB with every AP/Coaches/Heisman winner.

You have made a lot of great points in this thread.
Let’s revisit this topic when Bama drops their claim to 1941.

The Rebels compiled a perfect 10–0 record, outscored opponents by a total of 247 to 53, won the SEC championship, and defeated Arkansas in the 1963 Sugar Bowl.
It was also the same year James Meredith enrolled at Ole Miss. Do the math on the AP voting that year.
