Auburn...Is This Actually True?

Comrade Golesh's contract has a $1.5 million incentive for a "9th" win?
I know 5 losing seasons in a row is rough, but a $1.5 million bonus just getting 9 wins sounds like something Vandy or Arkansas would put in a contract. Embarrassing.

Not really. Glad to see schools doing similar to what we did with Elko's original deal. Solid base with lots of incentives, some very achievable and others stretch goals. I mean why would it be a win to just give a coach that $1.5 mill when both parties recognize that's basically the expectation? I can see how the coach might want the guaranteed money but why would the school want it?

With the structure of college football coach’s contracts, I have 0 problem with this. These coaches are being paid to fail. The only profession you can fail up.
If it is 1.5 for 9 wins, so be it. I would be happy if it was another 1mm for a 10 and so on.
Forget the optics of it. Look at the practicality of it.

That is scary. We lesser mortals have had to deal with Serbian head coach for 17 years!...Oh lord what would a fully grown Russian do in this league.

9 wins just seems low for a bonus if you consider yourself a big-time program.
I'm all for incentives...but squeaking out 9 wins...be happy with your $7 million base and continued employment.

Yes and it is how all contracts should be structured.

Maybe more programs should follow this model. You have to win 9 games before you can win 10 games. I love it. Big time program or not (as of now) no programs are immune from paying for crap coaching. These coaches know if they fail they win the lottery anyway.
I could care less about the optics.

I think it’s brilliant.
And it’s not about pinching pennies.
Incentive is incentive.

If you aren't hitting 9 wins you won't stay very long though. This just reduces the commitment so the school isn't paying them an extra $1.5 mill per year and in the buyout if they don't work out. It's smart. The coach is fine with it because he also expects to win at least 9.

Sounds like a product driven agreement. If there is no progress beyond year 4 then here is your 9 win contracted money and then see ya.
Kind of like the real world. Why should these guys be immune? They are expected to be the catalyst of a multimillion dollar company…be that.

Also there's bonus for being ranked in the top 10 but only in the AP Coaches or CFP polls. Not the polls that they used to award themselves Nattys.

Don’t lump us in with the past. It is a new era at Vandy.

I like it. Just my opinion, but this is no reason to take jabs at or laugh at Auburn.

I agree with everything about a product driven agreement.
It’s just slightly comical that he could potentially receive a $1.5M bonus and get fired on the same day.

When the playoff expands to 16, 9 wins might get you in.

There's incentives for winning 8,9,10,11,12, championships, etc.
Pretty standard coaching contract. You're just dumb as hell, but you think you're not. It's okay though.

In going to a 9-game conference schedule, a 9-3 record and being in the SEC = a playoff bid starting next season.
So yeah.
So yeah.

When has Auburn fired a coach after a 9 win season?
