Sorry, when I paste the link it abbreviates.
It’s from Outkick.
“It's been a long-simmering point of discussion that the Big Ten has been looking to add an injection of private equity, essentially selling off part of its new corporate enterprise to an outside investor. Reportedly, most of the 16 programs in the conference have been in favor of that plan, which has crystallized around a 20-year, $2.4 billion investment from the California Pension Fund.
But news broke this week that there are two holdouts who are vehemently opposed to it. And they're big ones; USC and the Michigan Wolverines.
Those two schools are apparently so opposed to it that they've reportedly considered the nuclear option: leaving the Big Ten entirely.”

Unsure of the validity of the article
Michigan leaving would be a death knell for the conference.
They'd bend over backwards with concessions before they let that happen. Maybe that's the plan with the saber rattling

DO NOT want them in the SEC!

The part about USC and Michigan being opposed to the inevitable dilution caused by private equity is 100% correct. And they're smart to oppose it.

Good for them. The others will regret their decision within a few years.
How is Ohio State so desperate that they’d go along with this ploy? They must be poor and hurting for cash.

What does that even look like?

So, the thing that the students created oh-so-many years ago, that became a feature of the Public University system, is to be dismantled and sold to... California? Fans, students, alumns should riot at the very notion.

I dont see any world where UM would join the SEC, I think they would probably go independant.
But the SEC would be smart to go after a few programs if this comes to pass. I could see value in offering USC, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado to give the SEC a coast to coast presence like the Big 10.
If UM is willing then dump one of UA, CU, or UU to make room l.

Private equity is going to kill football if we let those greedy bastards into the picture. I am glad that Michigan and USC are standing firm.

Maybe we can get hockey programs going.

I think we are likely to return to more regional conferences sooner than people think.
These super conferences allow for uneven scheduling.

Is this likely? No, there are immense incentives for SC and Michigan to stay where they are.
Could have just fast-forwarded to this line.
And I can't see Michigan in the SEC. They view SEC fans as overall wearing hairfoots blowing on jugs and scratching washboards somewhere deep in the woods.
It is a prideful and fairly arrogant fanbase.

Michigan and USC to the ACC w/Notre Dame joining full time would pretty much end all attempts by the Big 10 to pick off UNC and UVA.

Michigan would probably go independent for a few years. They have the brand to be able to survive on their own. USC I don’t know.
If those two leave I guarantee the Big 10 goes full court press trying to get A&M and probably Miami to replace them
