Needed changes - no matter how the rest of the season goes

Need a new special teams coach
That fake punt gutted us. Defense had just come up with a big stop. It was not a lucky play. The kid did not break a tackle to break it. There was no one out there for 40 yards or whatever it went for.
And it was not the first special teams breakdown this year. Won't be the last. Feeling pretty regular.
I think Moore needs to go.
He just does not show the ability to adjust enough, or at all. We need a different plan of attack in the running game when teams stop the stretch play. We have yet to show one.
We need a different passing plan when our quarterback is not executing and is struggling. Again and again, we have shown a lack of adjustment to lessen the load on the quarterback when the opposing defense has the upper hand.
Batoon has improved. His defenses give up too many big plays, but it feels like he has the defense moving in the right direction. I think he has earned more time to see if he can keep improving the defense and the defensive coaching.

I agree overall but he needs to hire a better safeties coach.

I know Poque is a good coach, but is Pride just uncountable as far as fundamentals? He gave up that inside slants for a TD by just opening his shoulders immediately. I could have run that slant.

Pride seems to be one of those players that is good for 48/50 plays every game, regardless of who we are playing. And often, those 2 plays go for a big play.
With Link, Yoro, and Moore this season, all the other coaches can count on the heat being somewhere else this offseason.

Thinking back to 2021 the season started out with a 2 - 4 record. There was a lot of grumbling even for Missouri fans. The season finished 4 - 2 for a 6 - record and a bowl loss. So Drink does change things and improve.
For this season a position of need was quarterback. Drink went out and got Pribula, Zollers and retained Horn on the roster. Things did not work out but it was not for a lack of trying.

More we lose, the faster Eli's going to Penn State.

How do they sell a less successful version of the guy they just fired to their fans and donors?

Eli's after game press conference is a clue. He took 100% ownership of the loss. Didn't mention holding any coach accountable it was all him.
When he goes to PSU the narrative will be it was his fault for being more distracted than he was admitting. But he wanted to be there for this last Senior Night.

That's not what they are selling... They are selling a younger coach who understands building a team thru the portal, and also understands how to use the media. That's the future of college football.

So if we hired Franklin, would we take a hit in NIL recruiting?

No retreads. I want a G6 hot runner.

Doubt it. Our donors are all in.

Two most successful coaches in my adult life, Pinkel and Drink. Pinkel was solid x and o’s and looked for advantages. Wide splits on oline, spread offense, etc. His recruiting was ok as he always found a few diamonds in the rough. Not a dynamic personality but solid. Drink not much of an x and o, not very creative in finding advantages. Large personality, dynamic face of university, good recruiter.
At end of the day, both styles yielded similar results. Pinkel did more with less, drink less with more.
If drink leaves, we need to find another young, energetic coach with solid coaching experience. Drink has pretty much been learning on the job at Mizzou how to be a football coach. Franklin is a solid coach but not sure he has the energy to make Mizzou standout among recruits.
Lastly, Drink is well paid for his performance. I believe next 2-3 years will define his ceiling as a coach, whether at Mizzou or somewhere else. Not the best time for a coaching search but if he wants to leave we should let him go. Mizzou has a lot to offer and we don’t want to remain married to someone with a wandering eye.

No, Franklin is seen as the safest pick to keep the cash flowing.
Here's a name that surprised me, Hartline from Ohio State, probably because boosters think he will bring a proven championship process to Mizzou.

Hartline is a very popular name on PSU boards.

OK, that explains where the boosters got it from.

His name has been raised in the Florida search, too.

Being a good coach is not a prerequisite anymore.

Not everyone has what it takes to coach at Colorado Bass
