I don't want Drink to leave but he would be doing us a favor if he leaves next week.
He will take players with him and the new coach needs time to recover from that. Some teams might lose their coach in late December/January and that will be a nightmare for them.

Mike Leach took a while to get another job to. Which was odd because everyone in the Big 12 was nervous when they played one of his Texas Tech teams. They knew he was a good coach. Maybe he wanted some off time.
Maybe Mike Gundy wants to take some time off before he jumps back in.

Thank you I see how it works now. It is still a crap shoot but I like who is holding the dice.

I'm getting cold on any AD making hires. They have their place in the process, but too many make their choice of coach and then sky out for other jobs. They have no skin in the game or accountability. Many will parrot the same retread names over and over.
A committee of people that have been here, and will still be here 5 years from now is best imo. The boosters should have a say to. It could be tough to get all those moving parts to agree on a hire though.

Thinking back to 2021 the season started out with a 2 - 4 record. There was a lot of grumbling even for Missouri fans. The season finished 4 - 2 for a 6 - record and a bowl loss. So Drink does change things and improve.
For this season a position of need was quarterback. Drink went out and got Pribula, Zollers and retained Horn on the roster. Things did not work out but it was not for a lack of trying.

As far as former Tigers go I like Jeremy Maclin. He has a quiet charisma and name recognition for recruiting. Five years high school experience. You would have to think he knows offensive football.
I could see Sean Weatherspoon as his DC. Seans charisma is all out in the open for recruits to see.
Back to reality I will be good with whoever a committee like we had the last time and the boosters decide to hire.

Dog shite.
Those numbers would get someone fired at other programs. Lucky for all the coaches involved it is Missouri.
This all reflects back on Eli so he should take a firmer hand with the offense if he comes back next year. He can only blame coordinators and position coaches for a season or two.

If a home run hire that checks all the boxes like Brian Kelly cannot make it at LSU in the year 2025 - then who can? The world is watching.

Drink is at a crossroads which is why he may seriously consider PSU. He gets donors to donate. He gets his bags for the portal. But he's excited donors who now want to see results. The Bama game was supposed to be the beginning of a breakthrough year, but he's produced the same lackluster result vs good teams.
It had not sunk into my head how much clout boosters have now. If they start to think he is not the guy and dial back their support then it is big trouble.
Fixing the offense may not be something that can wait for next year.

What was Pinkel's?
I agree we should keep Drink as long as we can. Florida and LSU have shown how risky coaching changes are. Another example is Nebraska firing Bo Pelini because he only won 9 games every year. How did that work out?
Gary Pinkel changed his offense to the spread when he realized that was what he had to do to compete in the Big 12.
That was a different time so who knows if Drink needs to change anything on offense.
SEC teams are shutting the offense down though. There should be alarms and bells and whistles sounding in the coaches offices.

Reading YouTube comments during the Florida coaching search about Drink many Florida fans did not want him hired because of the offense he runs. They said it was boring and did not work.
Alabama, Auburn, Vanderbilt, and now Texas A&M have all shut the offense down this season. Will Mississippi State have our number to I wonder.

That is all Blake said.
Probably a good offensive mind because Gators like that. They can hire a good DC, give him resources, and field a good defense when they want to. Good players down there.

There are many coaches out there Florida could get. It does not have to be Lane.
Blake Ruffino said a well known west coast coach wants to get out of the state he is in and may be talking to Florida.

Let's say a program brings some players in, at a specific position, during the transfer portal in January. What will happen when a player finds himself buried on the 4th string of a program in February or after spring ball. Especially in a high demand position like quarterback.
He can't transfer out but he ( and his agent ) can sue to have the transfer window open year round. This 3 week transfer portal only in January idea may get shot down in flames this off season.
Why would this happen? Agents want to make money year round.

No. There are many Missouri fans in Southern Illinois. The Media coverage is mostly Missouri so that is what some people know and follow.
The Big10, Big 12, and SEC all surround Missouri. There have always been other programs cherry picking talent out of the state.
Gary Pinkel and Eli Drinkwitz have had some good overall teams. 2013, 2014, 2023 and 2024 had powerful rosters. It can be done here.
The quarterbacks on those teams were good but they were not Tebow, Tua, Burrow etc. good. That seems to make all the difference.

How did the Baker to LSU move go down and how was it received by Drinkwitz? Did he and Drink get along? Was it a pissy departure? I don’t know, just asking.
When the talk about Baker getting the DC job at LSU heated up Blake tweeted he was happy at Mizzou and was staying.
Then he went home and his Louisiana wife may have told him what was what. The next thing you know he was on his way to LSU.
I doubt Drink holds that against him as it is something that could happen to any husband.

They can put people on lists all they want. Will coaches take a job in the SEC, especially a Big6 job with the crazy fans, when they are going right into the teeth of a 9 game SEC schedule?
Alabama and Texas had close calls last week. There is parity in the league. Everyone saw how crazy Alabama fans got when they lost to FSU.
It seems like a reckless move to take a Big 6 job now. Too much of a chance to fall flat on your face.
ACC or Big10 is the best choice. I could also see the man from Alma go home with the protection of a 10 year contract. I hope that does not happen of course.

When Blake Baker left for LSU I posted on the main board that in year 4 Kelly, his new OC, and new DC would all be on the hot seat.

It looks like A&M and Ole Miss have equaled LSU as a program now. This is intolerable to fans like LSU has. Next year LSU fans would have called for the AD to be fired along with Kelly. The AD got ahead of the game and the new coach will buy him a 3 year honeymoon with the fans.
Lane Kiffin said a couple months ago that dynasties like Saban had are dead due to transfer and NIL. He said he was afraid fans of blue bloods would not accept that and be too demanding of their coaches. The old "lose to Vanderbilt or Missouri or Ole Miss or A&M and you are fired" problem blue blood coaches have.
Right now traditional powers cannot stack 5 stars 4 deep like they used to. How will their fans react when 5 stars become so expensive teams can only afford 5 or 6 of them on the roster?
I'm not sure Kiffin and Drink will bite on a traditional power job anymore. If they do they know what a dangerous move it is and will know what they are signing up for. It is what it is.
With a 9 game SEC schedule many SEC coaches are probably looking longingly at those ACC, Big 12, Big 10 schedules.
