All this parity is a blast

Football is a lot less fun when so many conclusions are foregone. When there is a not insignificant chance that one of the best teams in the SEC could lose to one of the worst, games are more fun. Tons of one score games this year. Personally, I love it.

Maybe for the rest of y'all.

It’s certainly exciting. I’d prefer better overall play to be honest though. The transfer portal and NIL has ruined the depth and therefore ruined routine good football. I think it is exciting but I could enjoy some higher quality play than what I watch on Saturday.
The parity hasn’t created a bunch of elite teams battling it out , it’s just tons of good but not great teams playing good but not great ball.

I’m not a fan of it for obvious reasons. But I understand it’s the way college football is now. Complaining does no good.

I liked the other way better too. The new way doesn't seem to work as good.

61% of conference games have been 1 score.

I still don't see any more parity than usual. I see a lot of confirmation bias based on things that have been normal for the 50 years I've watched the game.
And everyone talking about how great things are, and yet the most popular topics are off season coaching changes.

It’s making the status quo very uncomfortable.
And I’m here for it.

Bama was arguably the national title favorite every single year for 15 consecutive year, overlapped somewhat by UGA doing the same thing for a few years. Obviously a very small sample size, but we have not had a clear cut title favorite in the 12 team playoff seasons, and certainly not one this season.

What confirmation bias? Certainly not a confirmation of parity. You have to go back pre-Saban before there was even a hint of parity.

Tell me about parity after Ohio St wins it again.

When a fan can no longer believe that a dynasty is a possibility, then you only get to enjoy momentary belief that you're the greatest program.
Dynasties should be encouraged to happen. It sends the signal that they won't interfere with programs just because they're successful. It adds a degree of proof of impartiality that doesn't exist in the new landscape.
When you beat a dynasty program, even mid season, it's a litmus test. You -know- you didn't just get lucky to beat them.
It also tells fans that yes, you too, can enjoy being king of the hill for more than 1 or 2 seasons.
I do understand how parity creates more fans and drums up more money for the sport, supposedly. But I do think it takes something special from the game. I am in my mid 40s. I remembered revering and hate-watching USC in my early college years. But I also admired them, and it made me burn with envy and dreams of seeing that kinda thing at Bama again one day. It's great to see teams get on top and stay on top if they can keep surfing well.
Just my $0.02 fan experience and wishes.

Last years championship team had two losses and wouldn't have made the playoffs at all 5 years ago.
It has made for a much more exciting season and a wide open shot for teams that never would have even had a chance just a few years ago.
The top 8 teams are very close and any could get hot and win it all.

Portal has really wrecked havoc on offensive and defensive line play imo. NIL seems weighted toward the skill positions and you can’t stack talent

We should break the bank on linemen. Any swinging dick can run.

Do you not understand how rare that was? That is the exception, not the rule. And beyond Alabama, there was still plenty of parity.
And even then Alabama only had 2 undefeated seasons during that time. 2009 where we barely won multiple games, and 2020 which was a very dominate season but still only beat Florida by 6 in the SECCG.
In that same time, Auburn, FSU, LSU, Georgia, Ohio St and Michigan won national titles. Florida as well if you want to count 2008 as the first year Alabama was a contender for the stretch.

Everyone who thinks teams suddenly having a good year is a new thing to college football and a sign of parity. When you can basically go back to any year in history and see the same things.
And the 12 team playoff adding parity is for damn sure an illusion. Hell, go back to almost any year and look at all the teams in the top12. And then look at all the teams in the top20 that probably had somewhat of a claim on the 12th spot.
Turns out, adding more spots is just adding more spots. It's not an actual indicator of things being closer. And now people in the future will never understand the thrill of a season where every game mattered.

I know that the whole point of this board is to see who can come up with and post the dumbest nonsense, but you may have jumped the shark here.

The point of it is, you shouldn't be penalized because you're able to be successful for extended periods. That they wouldn't interfere shows a degree of impartiality.
