Which has more to offer? Tenn has the mountains and Bama has the beaches and some nice hill country.
Tenn is trashier and you can find meth within 30 minutes in most places
Tenn is closer to better things IMO. Kentucky bourbon country and the Carolinas.
Also get more of a winter. Bama summers feel like the face of the sun.

Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina is the best place to live in the Southeast

If I had to move back to the south, I would only move to either East TN / NC or North Georgia.
That's it. No other places.

Which part? While neither state is as big as Texas, but they’re big enough that there’s enough deviation that it matters.
Like I wouldn’t mind living in the area around Nashville, but until they finish construction on the roads around Knoxville I’d hate living around there.

Mountains, no state income tax, no bammers.
The choice is easy.

I live in Alabama and like it. Eastern TN would be nice too I think. I wouldn’t live anywhere near Memphis

grew up in Huntsville and lived there until ~30 yrs ago moving West. I'm a mountain guy over a beach guy, so I always said if I ever moved back to the South it would be the mountains of East TN

The better question is do you prefer rednecks or hillbillies.
I’m born and breed Alabama, I know more rednecks than hillbillies
Truthfully, they’re both beautiful states full of fantastic people.

No one wants to live there. Nearby Hernando County (in MS) used to be a nice place but no longer.

I don't mind either. My daughter lived in Athens, TN and she absolutely hated it but I thought it was fine.
Memphis is a shithole country though.

Tennessee, this isn’t even a real question

Tennessee and it's not even close. Objectively, Tennessee is a beautiful State, especially on the East side.

Grew up in Huntsville and now live in Tennessee. I’m just fine here.

Alabama has some nice areas, but Alabama also has more white trash slash pine hellscapes than Tennessee by a factor of at least 50. "Pine tree farming" has been a scourge on our society.

Lived there for a while, and East Tennessee hillbillies actually have just as much in common with Indiana and Ohio hicks as they do with Alabama and Georgia rednecks if not more.

Northern Alabama is beautiful hill country.

If I had to choose between the two, I’d prefer to live just south of Birmingham in the Greystone CC area. But, that’s me. I also like Franklin, TN quite a bit too. Huntsville, AL is very nice, and if you can work remotely, living in Guntersville, AL wouldn’t be too bad either, especially if you like to water ski. Those would be my preferences.
