Yep, I agree. I watched the game on TV and they just destroyed us from the start; also watched Nebraska whip Oklahoma 35-31 in the 'Game of the Century' that year as well, one of the best games I've ever seen. That Nebraska squad was the only team in poll history that defeated the teams that finished #2, #3, and #4 in the final AP Poll...

After they spanked us in the '72 Orange Bowl 38-6 (we were undefeated and ranked #2 at the time), this was Bear's response:

Paul (“Bear”) Bryant said tonight that Nebraska's Cornhuskers “toyed” with his Alabama football team and he shouldered the blame for the Crimson Tide's worst bowl beating.

“We were beaten soundly by a far superior football team. Their team was much better prepared, too, than ours,” a dejected Bryant said in the Alabama dressing room after Nebraska's 38-6 rout of the Tide in the Orange Bowl game.

“Actually, most of the time they just toyed with us,” said Bryant. “They were one of the greatest, if not the greatest, I have ever seen.”

1992 Miami Hurricanes were on a 28 game winning streak and playing for their 3rd straight NC.

What are the qualifications for best team? Talent? Dominance? Draft picks?

Best defense would be 1986 Penn State.
Our offense was rolling, had scored 56 the week before vs Tennessee.
Penn State held us to 3 in Tuscaloosa.
Best offense would obviously be 2019 LSU.
So many of those guys still producing in the NFL.

Yeah, I can't speak to games in the 70s, but in my lifetime, this is the best team we've played

The old dudes will try to justify some old Nebraska team or something, but every major advanced analytics model has that 2019 LSU team top 3 all time.

You have a Heisman NFL All-Pro QB, the two best WRs in the NFL, an AA RB and a bunch of other NFL draft picks scattered in there.

The best defense we played was 2011 LSU and the best team was 2019 LSU.

That said with a healthy Tua we beat LSU in 2019.

The won 3 games by single digits and their defense was mediocre.

I do think 2018 Clemson belongs in that discussion. That team had NFL talent all over the fricking place.

I saw this game live and I have never seen a Saban team as helpless as in that game.
Even Saban seemed to give up right after Tua threw that Pick 6 . Perhaps he had the same feeling as Coach Bryant during the Nebraska game.

I have never seen the replay of that game to this day. Don’t know how it looked and what was said on TV.
