That an indictment on several things.

Preseason Polls ... the "expert" media voters are shite.

Recruit/Portal Rankings ... the talent evaluators are shite.

Media Hype to drive fan interaction/ratings ... it's all about the money.

.... and, there are some seriously overrated coaches out there right now. Whereas, at the same time, there are no Bears, Stallings, Dooleys, Spurriers, Osbornes, or Sabans to be found anywhere. Just a bunch of overpaid pathological egocentrics in it strictly for the big contracts and insane buyouts.

ohio state shouldn't be #1. Their only resume win was texas in a 14-7 game.

Of the 3 Penn State is (IMO) the most likely to right the ship. They did take Oregon to 2OT, and almost recovered at UCLA. Texas and Clemson just look really bad on the field right now.

A&M’s OL play under Fisher was infuriating to watch. I have to imagine Texas fans are saying the same thing about now. It’s a good thing Arch has more mobility than his uncles. Otherwise, he’d be in a wheelchair by now.

Read that again, out loud, and tell me that you still think Penn State can "right the ship".

Meh. Long road trip against a team that is hard to get up for in the first place, much less while still in a post-Oregon hangover.

Almost every team has a game or two on the schedule where they just come out flat and DGAF. Sometimes you can out-talent them and get by, sometimes you can’t.

If PSU lays another turd next time out, I’ll fully concede the point.

Too shiny, but I’m biting. Smart obviously qualifies, and yeah beyond that there’s maybe no one else at the moment if we’re not giving Ryan Day any credit.

Yeah, no Top 10 team should have to "recover" against an 0-4 opponent with a brand new HC and 2 new coordinators. They were favored by 20+ points.

I’d tap the brakes a bit. Until he does it with multiple QB’s, he’s still a potential Dabo (who actually did win with different QB’s).

Did Stallings? He was a 2nd and 26 OT throw away from doing it with Jake Fromm for goodness’ sake.

Also don’t bother addressing how long it took Osborne (or Bowden, who’s not listed but should be) to actually win their first natty

Yes Smart qualifies.

Manning, Klubnik, Allar were all described as elite by the media in the offseason. I’m not sure the media has ever been so wrong

Can’t argue with this. Miami has looked like the more complete team. But then again, OSU hasn’t faced the murderers row that Mizzou has faced either /s

I was wondering if preseason #1 and #2 being unranked this early in the season had ever happened before.

Maybe the pre season polls meant "rank" instead of ranked!

Do we count Texas' ranking toward their '# of weeks spent at #1'? Feels fraudulent.

You sound like a northern AP voter, who know their faves will soon run out of average comference opponents who are able to beat them.

counterpoint: dabo hasn't won jack shite without a mega-elite #1 overall draft pick at QB. Kirby has won multiple titles with a 2* walkon. Which one screams better coaching?

Ohio State should be number 1 until someone proves they can beat them.
