Missouri was always going to be the “least wanted” permanent.

Has very little (or less, anyway) to do with the merits of the program itself. It’s just that it was the one program that came from the Big XII as a Big 8 team.

A&M, Texas, and Arkansas all have long histories from the SWC days. Missouri just doesn’t have that with any program in the SEC.

All this to say, don’t feel too slighted, Mizzou.

ETA: Forgot about OU. Addressed that in a reply.

It's the most forgettable athletic program in the league. Hard to get excited about a game against Missouri.

Let’s be honest no one wanted any of the schools post 2012. Anyone stuck with one of the new 4 was going to be upset especially if it was one of the Big 6 SEC schools.

The amount of Mizzou slander on this board is exhausting.

Missouri reminds me a lot of Auburn. You forget they are there until you have to play them, then you’re like “oh shite… that’s right, they are in our conference. Well I guess we can go ahead and chalk that one up as a W.”

I can't speak for the whole fan base, but I feel a bit slighted. Nothing against A&M, always enjoyed our time together in the Big 12, but it's just not as a big of a draw for me as playing South Carolina. College Station just doesn't feel like an SEC town ... not compared to Columbia, Athens, Oxford, etc.

They should have just thrown the Texas schools an OU into their own little pod.

OU - Mizzou was obvious thanks to their shared MVIAA, Big 8, and Big 12 days.

How is this “slander”?

The OP specifically makes the case that the problem is overwhelmingly a lack of history with the rest of the teams, an issue the program can do nothing about.

Thin-skinned, much?

Fair. Forgot about that. Mea culpa.

Still, OU does have a long history with Texas, and their accomplishments go a long way to overcome the rivalry issues.

Missouri just doesn't have rivalries with anyone, except the old Big 8 teams. Missouri/A&M is weird and forced. Kind of like A&M/SC was - didn't make sense.

As an OU fan... I'm good with Missouri.

But I wish we could have gotten Arkansas as the rivalry weekend game. That would have gotten real heated real quickly.

We are going to be playing Missouri that weekend now...

But Arkansas and Oklahoma fans share a territory (especially Tulsa)... Not very many Mizzou fans live in Oklahoma although there are some OU fans in KCMO and the Springfield/Joplin areas.

But there are more OU fans in NW Arkansas these days than in MO.

Living in SE Oklahoma now, but always a Mizzou fan, I'm looking forward to OU being a permanent opponent.

All of these OU fans around me like my BIL that can't name 4 plays on their team love to talk trash about OU. Will be fun watching them get shut up by lowly Missouri.

Everytime Mizzou wins, it's because the conference and the opponent is having a down year.

Don't pretend like A&M isn't also from the Big 12 and isn't the Longhorn's little brother. Nobody in Missouri is excited to play A&M.
