But Byrne wasn't interested.
He also said Byrne only interviewed Norvell and Deboer, didn't really consider Lanning or reach out to him (or any of the other prospects).

i like dabo, but i didnt want him either. the odd thing about kdb is the one thing everybody questioned, seems to be the thing he's best at thus far, recruiting. consistency in performance on the field, hmm... that jury is still firmly out.

I'll keep saying it. Norvell was Byrne's first stop, and he was there over 12 hours trying to get the deal done before Norvell said no. He then flew to Texas but Sark declined to meet, then flew to Seattle.
Source: I am acquainted with one of the pilots that flew the plane, and friends with someone in their family. They arent from Alabama, have no reason to lie about this. They arent even a fan of any sports. Didn't even know who Byrne, Norvell, Sark, or KDB were well enough to make up such an elaborate lie.
They have also flown a couple of our assistant coach basketball hires to town.

Byrne is a lot dumber than I thought then

The only problem with that is Dabo wasn't and isn't taking the job. It's written into his contract at Clemson about the Alabama job. I don't doubt Saban wanted Dabo to succeed him, but that doesn't matter if he's not willing to take the job to start with.

Saban also wanted LSU to hire Houston Nutt when he left for Miami, so…

The buyout was a nonstarter.

Lanning was not a magic bullet. The dude is working with twice the NIL money that other teams have. I

Dabo would have been my first call. But I don't think he wanted to follow Saban. Maybe he does now. They seem so deeply ingrained in Clemson though.

Yeah, this dude just has daddy's credit card when it comes to money for recruiting. It is hard to determine what type of coach he really is because the guy is literally paying whatever it takes to get whoever he wants to come to the program.

Dabo with our resources and an AD forcing him to make better coordinator hires probably pans out fine here
If Deboer leaves or is fired in the next five years, I would have him as the first call.

Huh?
First, you think Byrne is going to be dictating coordinator hires? Second, you think Dabo would let an AD dictate his coordinator hires?

If Byrne tried to get Norvell first then that's a pretty big indictment. Not talking to Lanning at all is another one. I'd think he'd at least make some contact, but maybe he was 4th but never got that far. Norvell would be very far down the list even back in early 2024.

Saban recommended Bobby Williams to replace him in East Lansing and that was a train wreck.
Saban recommended Houston Nutt to replace him in Baton Rouge.
Who knows if Dabo would have been good here - we will never know - but Saban's track record for recommendations in his exit interview is a small but questionable sample.

If Dabo had been hired we’d have a Church of the Highlands logo at the 35 and on the uniforms

Dabo's issue is hiring unqualified friends to his OC position
Considering Clemson forced him to go outside in the last iteration, yes

Where was that reported?

Saban is the GOAT at running a program but it’s obvious he’s shooting a short stick as a judge of coaching talent …

DeBoer has been miles better here than Napier has been at Florida. I can say that while still being quite disappointed in DeBoer to date.
