Saban is 100% right

Every kid in the southeast grew up wanting to play for an SEC school. Since Reconstruction really, college football has been a part of our cultural zeitgeist. I’m sure kids grew up wanting to play for Ohio State and Michigan, but it’s truly not the same.
None of that matters anymore because of the disturbing NFL-ization and corruption in the sport. These kids bounce around colleges and shop around without any sense of loyalty or allegiance. They’re leaving college and going to the pros still acting like children. Lost in all of this is the sense of school culture, pride in an academic institution, and respect/trust in others that made college football so special. If there are no boundaries or legal parameters put on NIL and the transfer portal, it’s going to continue to get ugly. This is not a system set up to help young, impressionable people succeed in life, which is what college is supposed to be.

While I agree with the overall sentiment, I think for a lot of Kentucky fans (well....maybe not I'm not our official spokesperson) this shite doesn't bother me/us nearly as much because of Calipari's one and done bullshite with basketball. We already became accustomed to it on the hardwood, so now this is just more of the same on the gridiron really.
At least that's how I see it. Maybe the other Cay fans on here feel differently.

They seem to be modeling the behavior of many of their coaches, whoever pays the most gets the coach. Always negotiate for more and use the fact you could leave as leverage.

True to some extent, but kids have been getting pulled from SEC territory to tOSU, Penn State and UM since long before NIL.

Not the same tho. Coaches have checks n place. Osu can’t just walk up to Kirby and say hey we’ll pay you more and he leaves. He is under contract, osu would have to pay him more and buy out his contract.

This will end up affecting the NFL, as well. The top talent is not being developed, and no one is reigning in these idiots in.

Would be smart if the NFL teams bought the XFL and turned it into a farm league. Let the young ones shine and get polished while also providing games in venues within smaller markets. Have rules about moving people up.
The ones who can provide immediate impact can make the starting lineup while some others can work it out in the minors.

Florida got caught and cost themselves a chance at a national championship in 1984 and 1985.

You’re over-romanticizing it. All the tradition is more for the fans and that is mostly still there. The players still want to win and be developed at least as much as they want to get paid. The ones you want do anyway. College football is going to be OK.
