Sanders Calls on University Board of Trustees to Make the Razorbacks vs Red Wolves Game an Annual Event at War Memorial Stadium.

Governor's Website Newsroom

quote:

University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University Board of Trustees

Dear Trustees,

This week marked a historic moment for our state, the city of Little Rock, and War Memorial Stadium as we hosted the first-ever meeting between the Razorbacks and the Red Wolves on the football field.

This special and long-overdue occasion united the University of Arkansas and Arkansas State University in a way that fans across Arkansas have dreamed of for decades. As trustees of your respective institutions, you share in the pride and passion of your fan bases—and you hold the ability to ensure this game is not a one-time event, but the beginning of a lasting tradition.

As Governor, a native of Little Rock, and a lifelong football fan, I am calling on you to make this historic matchup an annual event at War Memorial Stadium, in the heart of our state. Generations of Arkansans have come to this stadium to cheer for their teams and witness some of the greatest moments in Arkansas sports history—but never before for a game like this. Now is the time to change that.

I urge you to work together to secure this tradition for the people of Arkansas. If I may be of any assistance in this effort, please do not hesitate to call on me.

Sincerely,
Sarah Huckabee Sanders
Governor of Arkansas

Well, I just reached out and let her know how I felt about it, for whatever good that will do.

If you want to do the same here is the link.

I see no need in playing them again. They got what they wanted, time to move forward.

And just like that, the solid blue city of Little Rock no longer wants the UofA & stAte to continue playing in war memorial

I always liked having games in Little Rock so people who normally wouldn’t get to see a game live could go. But it’s a different financial world now and losing 6 million in revenue isn’t that attractive or wise in the nil era.

Plus not being able to host recruits on campus is a negative. I understand not playing there and it’ll just have to be an end of an era.

She's getting pressure from the Little Rock folks and ASU folks. She's an OBU alum and a Razorback fan.

She can pen a letter requesting them to consider it. Arkansas will consider it and say no. It's makes no sense financially for Arkansas to play in LR and the LR advantage no longer exist. It will be very easy for Arkansas to politely decline.

War Memorial has a lot of memories for me. Going there with my dad and grandad, that are no longer with us, made for great memories. It's time to turn that space into parking for UAMS.

When has this administration did anything that made financial sense in the last 10 years.

I'll hang up and listen.

Not just that, but central Arkansas is barely pumping out any football talent anymore. Let this end.

Let UCA and ASU play there.

I just wonder if the athletic department gets pressure from the academic/administrative side of the university to keep the governor happy because they need the state’s support and funding

As we were walking to our car we saw a couple of girls going after it, I mean weaves were flying and 100 ft away was 8 golf carts full of cops. I asked them if they had seen the fight going on and all the sudden they got interested and started moving.

I vote the stadium goes away

I'm on board. Make it a permanent home game for A State. No rotation. That's the condition.

There needs to be no more games in Little Rock.

The city could commit to upgrading the stadium and it would have a chance to host a bowl game, but they do not do it. North Little Rock will not even make a commitment to upgrade the arena across the river to be able to host NCAA basketball tournament first/second round matchups any longer.

If they (NLR & LR city leadership) really want events in their cities, then they will commit to upgrades to both of the venues. But they have not done so, so why should the UA commit to playing in either of those venues?

"If we ever do this, they will just want more." - - Not only me but likely most of us in ancient ASU threads.

I am fine with playing ASU every couple of years... in our house. At Fayetteville.

Let's be honest, we got lucky at LR this year. Not in the final score, but in the fact that the turf monster dined mostly on the red puppies. If Green had gone out with a bad leg injury the season is over.

I tolerate Little Rock. But if we just have to play a "home" game not at Fayetteville, one every 5 years at Dallas or Memphis would be just fine.

I honestly didn't hate the game once it got going and once we were in control. If we are doing what we should be doing this isn't a game we should be too worried about.
I just don't see where it's beneficial to the program in the present state of collegiate athletics.

nailed it. Hog fans vote, so do Red Wolf fans. She made a political decision when penning this letter. It will have zero effect on the BoT.

stAte needs to take up the mantle of playing 1 gm each season at WMS. It would help them grow their brand, and due to NIL and transfers, wouldn't hurt the Hogs at all. I'm a cent ark fan, and I don't want to see the Hogs at WMS ever again.

That would be a good way to lose her job which would be more than fine with me. She’s an embarrassment for the state.
