Do the academies participate in NIL? Are there any restrictions because of their unique arrangements? I’m wondering who would actually provide the funds.

They claim to be the only ones that don't. But who knows. I'd tend to agree since you'd be required to go into service as repayment for your free ride.

t thought about that as well but more so how do they handle the portal which seems to be vital in this day and age, you can't just transfer in to a service academy.

Once you’re at the service academy you get a stipend. 1100 something around that. It’s against the law ( federal) to receive NIL money.

They don’t take transfers

Neither do Army or Navy

They certainly take prep school and JC transfers.
I'm not sure about 4 year institutions.

no, but the players get paid just like students do.
it's not any amount to brag about, but it's a paycheck just like any person enrolled in the military and not at an academy.

yes, it's against the law (like actual law, not NCAA rules) for them to receive any NIL payments.

that's what i was wondering so in my mind it makes that win over kstate that much more impressive. half of the power 4 school rosters turn over every year now thanks to the portal.

I was about to say what you put. Plus they can get that loan which the smart one's invest it and the dumb ones buy a truck. I forgot how much but it's a decent amount.

I'd wager that 99% of kids ELECTING to attend service academies don't give two shits about NIL money. They are signing up for a whole slew of other reasons, and I bet my home equity that the level of character on those teams is pretty stellar...very much unlike the 'look at me' generation of Ryan Williams TikTok kids.

TYFYS academy boys.

It’s around 35k with sub 1% interest, but they can’t get it until I think the 3rd year.

Let me put it another way. Without using google, name one kid on each service academy team...

I read a post somewhere on their process (maybe reddit?). Anyway, no. They operate different. It is a long process to get on the field. They take a ton of freshmen every year, and you have to put in time to make the actual team. They have a different process, and I didnt come away thinking it was an advantage.

When GameDay was at Army/Navy last year or the year before, it was mentioned that because the student picked to try the FG kick was either a cadet or midshipman, they could not legally give him money if he made it.

The Naval Academy Prep School is in Newport, RI. They can definitely transfer to the Naval Academy upon graduation from prep school. I am assuming that the other service academies have the same programs as well.

Good to see they can focus on football mostly and not be bogged down in classes about how it's so great to put men in dresses and have them using the girls bathroom.
