If he doesn’t throw that interception, Ohio state doesn’t score that TD and it’s likely a 7-7 game

His stats of 17/30 and 170 yards honestly is not horrendous, given he was starting on the road at OSU. That’s a tough as nails place to play when they’re good. Are we just going to ignore his stats from last year, when they were much shinier? He’s not a terrible QB and I’m betting he plays better as the season goes on, as long as he doesn’t get the jitters from this game.

I hate Texas as much as all of you, but I don’t think Arch is nearly as bad as everyone else does right now.

He was advertised as QB Jesus. Compared to that he was overwhelmingly disappointing. Really he looked like a guy a little out of his depth in first start on the road vs. a top 5 team. Played better towards the end of the game, but he was inaccurate in bursts from the very first pass.

He looked like a kid getting his first start at Ohio State on the road. Now we will get to see what he's made of for real. Will he fold up or will he accept the defeat dig in, work hard, and succeed?

He's a victim of his name. Good kid and family. If his name were Johnson, he is a backup at Tulane or starter at ULM.

College football fans swing from one major overreaction to another.

He was overhyped before the season, for sure, and he looked mediocre on the road against what you have to say right now is the best team in the country. Now a lot of the people that were saying he was the Heisman front runner a few days ago are saying he is one of the worst QBs in the SEC.

My opinion is that he will get better as the season goes on and will shape into a decent quarterback. The people saying he sucks are overreacting in a major way to a week one road game against a really good team.

This is CFB...don't use reason and common sense. Arch is the worst QB to ever start in div 1 football damnit!

No, he made a lot of great decisions but he was inaccurate on a lot of throws. Ohio State's defense (forgot the DC's name) outsmarted Sarkisian's offense. Check out Dan Orlovsky's analysis of it.

He did not have a good game, but if the sports idiots had not been hyping him as the Heisman front runner, among other things, I'm not sure if we would be talking about him.

You can't blame the kid for taking all the money that people are throwing at him, nor can you blame him for failing to meet all the crazy expectations the click-bait writers and commentators have set for him.

I remember a highly touted (in that day) young QB throwing 5 interceptions in one of this first varsity games. Pat Sullivan turned out alright.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted that I almost felt sorry for AM. I knew if he had a bad game, the whorn fanbase would shite all over the kid. They have. Just check out Burnt Orange Nation. The whorn fanbase hyped their team as unbeatable and Arch was just waiting for December to be handed the Heisman trophy.
But, he was that bad. (Not all his fault, Sark called a horrible game, especially in the red zone, same as last year) one of the stats that stood out was something like 37% of his passes were no where near or catchable by the recievers. Out of 30 passes, means about 11 had zero chance of being caught. That’s not defense, that’s not receiver drops. Throwing a short pass at the ankles at the goal line is not a good look. In addition his throwing motion looks horrible. He is a third year QB, he should look better. He is going to improve…but I don’t think he will be a top drawer QB. But watch the whorns, as they have done for decades, they will keep him in the game against way inferior opponents to run up the score and pad his stats the next couple of games.

Matt Patricia, a former DC under Belichek with the Patriots, had a great gameplan. Manning’s hesitancy and reluctance to pull the trigger makes a lot more sense after seeing this. He was lost because his OC was lost. The inaccurate throws, including the pick, were all on Arch.

I'm gonna wait for some more data before forming a conclusion. What I saw was Texas receivers failing to get open. Of course, when they did Arch missed them.
He did seem confused by the coverages most of the game.

He's a first time starter having growing pains. Anyone other than the media looking for clicks saw it coming.

This. Ron Jaworski used to say, "the most underrated criterion of a great QB is accuracy." Arch failed on that miserably. I was shocked at how bad his mechanics were.

As a Texas fan, sure I would have liked the movie script Friday Night Lights Arch QB star outcome.

What we got, for anyone who actually deals with young people in their lives, was a nervous young QB with a new offensive cast playing a top defense in a hostile environment in his biggest ever game, after months of distraction. Instead of satisfying everyone’s instant gratification fantasies, Arch has to learn on the job.

He did settle in better by the 4th quarter; where he gained most of his positive stats.

I do think Arch will listen to his coaches and work to get better. If Arch was your own son playing QB vs.OSU, would you have expected instant success??

See for yourself. Various analysts are trying to explain it away, but he was wildly inaccurate many times throwing to often uncovered receivers.

He’s a junior who has known for two solid years that he’d be starting, which makes his “deer in the headlights” performance particularly surprising.

He wiffed several easy throws that should have been routine completions, and badly missed open receivers. It was rough.

His unconventional side-arm throwing motion is a head-scratcher, especially considering his pedigree, as well as the “coaching” he’s been surrounded by his entire life … the whole situation is weird.
