Love it that we won, don’t get me wrong. But as far as the secondary and things to work on….That’s as bad a game as I’ve ever seen us play. Was supposed to be the strength of the team along with WR corps. I don’t know if they read their press clippings too much or what, but they flat out sucked tonight. They have a LONG way to go to even be decent. 5, 28, 19, 8 all got abused repeatedly.

Game 1. Game speed is a lot different than practice speed. Especially at such a reactionary position as DB.

Id be lying if I said I wasnt worried about Kaleb Harris. He might be this years keionte. But we should be deep enough to get through it.

They're gonna need some thick skin if they keep reading the press clippings after tonight

Yep. They need a come to Jesus meeting before SEC play starts or every QB is going to torch them.

We looked a little heavy legged tonight. Not sure if the flight, heat, to much 1 on 1 in full camp. We have 4 guys that started a lot of games last season so I have to think it was a scheme issue or just tired legs.

Definitely missed way to many tackles and continued to lose inside leverage on crossers, slants, etc.

Our D looked awful. We did well against the run............somewhat. Our QB pressure was lacking. Our DB's looked horrible. That was frustrating after hearing how loaded we are on D. The D needs ginormous improvement.

Sometimes you come out of off season just looking lethargic. Freeze saw it in the first half. But you have to hand it to Baylor receivers…..yards after catch were out of this world.

Squirmy little boogers.

Two weeks to get them to game speed before Oklahoma.

Hopefully they don’t see another Trigg again.

Typical Durkin defense:
Gave up too many long plays
Poor scheme and no adjustment
No consistent pass rush
Pathetic tackling
DBs giving too many penalties and looking completely lost

They looked out of shape, slow, and bad fundamentals. But other than the busted coverage TD they gave up, I don’t think there were too many blown assignments, just slow and soft.

Need this week of practice to be old school defensive fundamentals and gassers.

In defense of our secondary, Baylor wasn’t efficient in the passing game… 20+ incompletions… it was some critical failures in 3rd/4th and long situations and the poor tackling that killed them.

There is no defense of the DBs being flat-footed and seeming stationary for two counts.

I miss the days when coaches answered call-ins on the post game shows and fans questioning them. If we did have that, Durkin would be getting both ears boxed with hard questions of his defenses.

They did struggle but it was mainly the safeties and nickel. Their TE is going to make a lot of people look bad and we did look like we had heavy legs so I'll hold off on getting to the concerned stage. Crawford and Lee were solid

I think the defense will get better but I don’t see an elite unit

I don’t understand the Durkin hate or dislike. Some times the other team executes and there isn’t much you can do. Game plan was definitely not to allow them to run the ball. They accomplished that. Granted we didn’t play well but I think this might be a one off.

My biggest gripe last night from Durkin was us not checking out of a few blitzes we had called. 2-3 times we had an overload blitz to one side and they had a 3 WR bunch on that side. At best you’re going to have 2 defenders to defend those 3 guys because of that, assuming the RB does go into the flats. Not once did we check out of it.

me either. The D was the only bright spot we had last year. It played damn well.

Last night was a shite show............but I don't blame Durkin for missed tackle after missed tackle. There comes a time you have to hold the players accountable. When they are on the field is that time.

If you're not blaming the DC for that effort then who can you blame? That was pathetic.

Said in another post. Yardage after catch. Looked at some 2024 footage…their receivers put a lot of yards on the board after the catch. You saw the receivers doing what they were known to do. Makes me wonder if the theory was to keep them in front of you. In that regard even though a lot of room to let them roam, the task was to keep the damage to a minimum.

This week tackling drills. Reason I moved from being an All Conference Safety to Quarterback. The dam drills. Rather throw than hit all day.

Baylor is screaming that Refs stole the show…..they were SEC Refs and they officiated as such…….but face it Baylor got their lunch stolen because they couldn’t play SEC ball.

the players that tried to tackle ankles and just run up lower their shoulder and not wrap up? That's like blaming an OC for WR's dropping balls or RB's fumbling.

That was the most disappointing point. Receivers are going to get open even against elite defenses, but the YAC was all due to our piss poor tackling. You don’t see Bama or UGA or A&M DB’s do that. I think we can fix that and this group can be great, but the tackling needs to be addressed post haste.
