12 of us, I’m including Arky and South Carolina. I’ve enjoyed them both since added and I think we all now consider them canon.

Ron Franklin.

Verne.

Gary.

Kentucky vs Vandy on JP sports at 11 AM.

Ron Franklin calling an LSU Auburn game on a cold fall evening.

Bama still kicking our arse most times. Shaun Alexander going wild.

Cocktail party with Verne and Gary absolutely loving it.

Sports writers still didn’t respect us.

Was a good time.

But all good things shall pass.

Lots of great games and great players.

But most of all great pageantry.

Arkansas and South Carolina are real southern schools from small southern states. Every school since then has had one foot outside the south and aren't truly part of Southern culture.

If I had to pick 2 next best matches based on culture alone, it would be A&M (traditionally a Southern area of Texas), and Oklahoma (may not be Southern, but they are good, down to earth people, so they have the culture.

Texas and Mizzou are complete outliers. I like Missourians and southern Missouri is very southern from a culture standpoint. Mizzou, however, falls outside that footprint.

And Texas is Texas. They are 100% percent about being a Soutwestern Texas culture. Plus, they've let themselves be overrun by imposters.

Agreed. Never minded the Arkansas and South Carolina additions. They made sense. Never wanted any other teams after 1992 but wish we would’ve taken Clemson or Florida State instead of what we have added. Would’ve kept the culture and added better rivalries.

12 was a good number.
2 divisions of 6.
Play 5 division teams every year alternating home/away.
Play 3 of the 6 other division teams home and away then the other 3 home and away.
Played all 11 teams at least twice every 4 years.
Division champs played for SEC Championship.

This.
These future generations will not understand the game I grew up with.
Remember player introductions?

Finally getting the BCS to settle football games was a crowning moment that was a century past due. What we are watching now with NIL chaos is the adults in the room and unregulated greed.

Clearinghouse is going to be the deciding factor. If they can stop the bidding madness and regulate this stupid greed, with these adults in the room, then college football has a chance. Otherwise, this sport is economically doomed, and in a few years, we'll be calling now the good old days.

Bring back the SW conference.

But we should keep Arkansas as they've proven to be good people.
