Georgia was always a solid program under Richt, he just couldn’t get them over the hump. Florida had their moment as well and LSU. Bama also won a natty.
It was still a strong conference unlike the little whatever it is you play in.

Spurrier owned the SEC pre CNS. Alabama cheated and had a nice year with Gene. From 1992 -2000 Florida played in 9 SEC championship games. Tenn played in 2. Florida won 5 of those. Alabama played in 5, winning 2.
Note that Spurrier won the SEC in 1991 before the SECCG existed. He also actually won it in 1990 on the field , but Florida was on probation that year due to the actions of his predecessor so they were ineligible. The coaches voted him coach of the year that year anyway.
Not sure anyone dominated the 80s. Auburn, LSU, Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Tenn had some good teams at different points during the decade.

Alabama. Is this a trick question?
At least 11 championships before Saban arrived under four different coaches. Three with Wallace Wade, 1925, ‘26 and ‘30, one under Frank Thomas in 1935 (most of us don’t count 1941), six under Bryant ‘61, ‘64, ‘65. ‘73, ‘78, ‘79, one under Stallings in ‘92.
Bama has been winning championships for a hundred years. Bama football didn’t start in 2007. These B1Gs, SEC newbies and youngsters.

I’ll take our 92 title team against any Florida team. We spanked all Florida teams that year including the gauntlet Miami squad for the NC. I was 8 and at that game.
