North Penn and Cedar Cliff faced off in a Pennsylvania state championship game over the weekend. The game went into extra innings and became longest game in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) history. Neither team was able to score a run through 12.5 innings. However, things ended with a walk-off balk in the bottom of the 13th inning... (The Spun)

3nOut posted a much better view of balk. It's more obvious than some others I've seen called. The umpire was right in calling it, regardless of the inning, score, or situation.

"...best stories ever"? Not really. Especially not for the kid standing in the box trying to live out a dream ending

better angle of what the ump saw.

it’s very unfortunate for the kid, but I think pretty much every umpire around would call that a balk. The situation in the game should not alter that call. The kid clearly toed the mound and made a reflexive and unfortunate movement.

Loved the guy coming to home strutting like he just hit a walk-off dinger. Travel ball bullshite has perverted baseball at every level.

I can imagine worse ways for a game to end, for example, a meteor strike.

This video clip is a perfect encapsulation of Larry Leo’s journalism “skills”.

That is a bad way to end a game. I wish we could see if it was a nit pic call.

Agreed but the runner on 2nd never touched third. I wonder if they appealed would he be called out?

Did the batter touch first? Does it matter?

you can’t end a game on a tiny technicality like that. what kind of ump calls that?

So balks should not be called if the game is on the line?

If the pitcher bawked, then it should absolutely end the game

We were in Maine one year for the first two weeks of June. HS spring sports championships were dominating the sports news.
