I only know LSU so it's a pretty uninformed stance....
I'm nervous for LSU's depth of pitching having to go through a losers bracket. The tigers have pitching but I'm not comfortable they can hold a team to 5 or less runs when the offense struggles.
What say you as a Piggy fan.

This, whoever wins that first game will have big advantage. A loss doesn't put the championship out reach obviously, but in creates a pretty big hill to climb especially since there's a good chance the same two teams meet again once the loser fights their way out of the elimination bracket.
Gonna be a good game and a hell of a lot of fun regardless. Or at least it should be.

Both of Jay Johnson’s CWS finals teams came out of the losers bracket.
Hard to imagine LSU and Arkansas won’t play at least twice, regardless of which team wins Game 1.

Both need to win IMO. But if I had to pick one I’d think Arkansas would be better suited to win 4 games in a row to come back from the loss. It’d just be very difficult for either to do.

I honestly don’t think it matters too much.

LSU has slightly better starters.
Arkansas has a better bullpen.
Lineups are each about equal...maybe slight edge to Arkansas.
Each team without a doubt can play out of a losers bracket with UCLA and Murrary St. but the winner has a huge advantage.

Both. It's very important to win the first two games to advance to the championship

Very well put.

It’s obvious to everyone that winning game one is a huge advantage to whomever wins it.
But…. I remember very well in 2023 when we lost game 2 to #1 Wake Forest, almost everyone thought LSU was dead, because we didn’t have a deep enough, or talented enough pitching staff to come out of the losers bracket. Well…. Our bullpen that struggled all season long came up aces and we made it through and beat Wake twice and got to the CWS Finals.
Skenes pitched the deciding game against Wake, so he was unavailable for the CWS Finals against Florida. Florida had a deep, rested staff, so no one gave us a chance without Skenes.
LSU won the 2023 CWS Title and Skenes never threw a single pitch in the Finals against a significantly better Florida pitching staff.

I say it’s very advantageous obviously for both teams to win game 1. However from what I know the Hogs have a great pitching staff, and LSU has had some very encouraging late season performances by its pen. So I don’t think losing spells disaster for either team.

I think Arkansas' staff could survive the loser's bracket a little better but I don't think either team is too worried about the other half of the bracket.
Obviously every team here can play ... that's not what I mean, just that the best two in the bottom half meet game one and would likely meet again to get to the finals.

FWIW LSU came out of the losers bracket in 2023 with a much worse pitching staff. Anything can happen, but if we get knocked out I will be pulling for you guys.

More important for LSU
If we lose that game we don’t have the pitching depth from a starter standpoint to make a run imo

From a pure talent standpoint, not sure it matters beyond the obvious challenge of working through losers bracket. Chances are we play at least twice, regardless.
Mentally, I feel like the Hogs "need it" a slight bit more... we are still chasing ghosts, while LSU is chasing an 8th CWS Championship. We've been on a roll thru Regionals and Supers, so anything that disrupts that momentum may cause some sphincter tightening.

I think the answer here is LSU

Mentally, as someone else said, the Hogs need an opening win more.
You will be hard pressed to find two more evenly matched teams in college baseball.
Hell, I'm hoping for Arkansas to finally break the curse and win a natty in baseball, but I wouldn't cry myself to sleep every night if LSU goes on to win it all.

Arkansas is the most complete team on paper. That along with a deep bullpen is what will get DVH his first title this year.
