Hi All,

Myself and two friends are travelling over to Texas from the UK later this year in October. We're blessed with having a tough decision of going to the Red River Shootout in Dallas or going to College Station to watch A&M vs The Gators.

Appreciate there is going to be some bias, but which option would you recommend?

Thank you,

If you choose the "wed wiva wivalwy, be prepared to hear Boomer Sooner enough to wish you'd never left the Eastern hemisphere.

RRR is one of the best games there is. It's right in the middle of the Texas state fair so you get that for free. Game is split 50/50 so there is cheering and booing on every play. Nothing else like it. All the corn dogs and fried oreos you can eat.

If you want your picture taken with gay cheerleaders go to the other game.

OK, I am going to assume this is an honest/ not troll post…

Memories of a football game in College Station will definitely remain etched into your brain forever… but not always for good reasons. aggies can be friendly and have other redeeming qualities as individuals… but when they are all together at a Kyle Field football game it’s kinda a creepy mass cult experience … as aggies all remember their “fish camp”’ training and loudly revert to their base indoctrinated pagan chants against the Texas Longhorns, who (as you and your friends might notice) will not even be an opponent of aggie at the game that day…

The Red River Shootout is a great game with long historic roots, with two blue blood programs (with passionate but normal fans) going at each other during the annual Texas State Fair (the largest annual state fair in the U.S.)

I definitely recommend the Red River Shootout!! State Fair parking can be sketchy though, so be prepped for that and arrive plenty early with some neighborhood front lawn parking cash…

Are you predicting an Oklahoma win? Sounds like it.

In case this is real, Texas/OU is the place to be, if you can get tickets. State fair is happening and lots to do before and after the game. People watching alone is worth the trip from UK.

Skip those and go see UTSA and Texas State play. They’re the more elite programs.

Unless you like getting something stuck in your arse, then yes, go see a Texas or Aggie game. Just check your seat first

Well, to quote a favorite movie line, 'Nothing in Texas but steers and queers.' So, my advice is forget going there.

But if you really wanna see a Texas team play go to Athens and see the Texas vs UGA game. We took them down for 2 in a row last season, so they'll be coming to our house looking for revenge. Should be a good game.

My experience with you limeys is that most don't even give American football a chance. So congrats on that at least. Some advice:

1. Over here, spotted dick is not a pastry. It's a disease.
2. A fig is not a cigarette. It's a homosexual man.

I will try to give you a fair assessment here...

If you want to go to a typical home vs. away game in one of the better college atmospheres in the country... Go to A&M-Florida.

By going to A&M you will have experienced a standard "big time home game" on an American college campus. It would be pretty similar to going to an Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia game other than the "interesting" Aggie traditions that are seen nowhere but A&M.

If you want to go to the most unique, festive atmosphere in college football...and see one of the most intense rivalries in one of only a trio of traditional "neutral site" CFB games.

By going to the game in Dallas you will have seen one of the most amazing spectacles in all of American sports. The downside is you won't have experienced what a typical game day is on a college campus.

They play that shite for 0U 1st downs, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they slap the dildos around for some TDs.

Interesting. I sat next to a brit at last year's TX OU game. He told me he had a bucket list that included a big American football game and he picked the RRS.

Why waste your time: if you want to see some real Texas football, go to a HS game.

Tough choice...

Keep in mind the Red River Rivalry is only good when both teams are fairly equal. If OU continues its devastatingly poor performance since entering our conference you might want to check out College Station.

College Station atmosphere is incredible and quirky. It won't disappoint. I agree it's very cult like with goofy guys dressed in all white leading cheers. I also think it will be a better game since there are two decent teams playing, unlike the Red River Rivalry.

As much as you should see the RRS, getting into Fairpark Dallas area can be painful with fighting traffic and all.

Parking and taking the train is the way to go but you also gotta know your areas of Dallas.

College Station would have more ease of access, but RRS will have more energy, hatred, passion.

Yes, I get what you are saying about OU, but I honestly don’t expect OU to be down that long with their old school pride and continued access to Texas h.s. football players, plus the ace quarterbacks they will keep recruiting. They are definitely not satisfied with losing…

No true Longhorn fan takes that game for granted, as anything can happen on Red River Shootout game day…

We went to LSU v Ole Miss last October, the tailgaiting and stadium atmosphere was awesome! It helped that it was an evening game that ended up going to OT.

If we went College Station we would go there on the Friday, watch the game on the Saturday and travel to Dallas on the Sunday.

If we go to the RRR we will go to Dallas on the Friday and go to the Texas State Fair, go to the game on the Saturday and then stay in Dallas until Monday/Tuesday (potentially go to COSM to watch some sport on the Sunday).

Appreciate all the advice so far!
