Is Nico really worth $8 million?

If he plays like Joe Burrow then yes, we'd pay even double. But he was serviceable at best and padded stats against cupcakes. Whenever he played against defense with a pulse he rarely even threw downfield.

The Tennessee athletic department went to war with the NCAA over Nico
Y’all thought he was worth something

Tenn was stupid enough to pay him $2 mil a year when he was recruited. The AD went before committees to argue for it. Give a kid that kind of leverage, what do you think was going to happen?

Lol. That is an awesome find. He was a true believer 7 months ago and now asking if he was worth the money.

No. He missed wide open receivers in the Bama game last year that had our defense burned.

The better question now, Is how many other players will do this before fall camp

This is why I get hesitant to ask for a raise at work. Of course I'm not going to ask for 4x and a $6 million raise, but still haha.
Always best to have a competing offer in hand to show you mean real shite. You won't ever have leverage against the man who decides how much you get paid, until you have a competing offer that is more than you're currently being paid. Then at that point, you finally beat the man. You finally have his balls in a vice grip.

Less than were going to have done it yesterday.

He had moments, but a lot of last year he was mediocre, with our defense keeping us around until something silly happened and we won games.

This.
A real difference maker would’ve scored an additional 17 points easily last year, he’s just not that great.

Not a homer for 10rC at all, but frick that guy.
You are a good program with a long history of quality players at all positions. Screw some teenager that wants millions to show up for you.
You are too good for that.

Looking at the ROI for 2.something a year? Yes. It was worth it. Vols were a playoff team last year and 2 million for a QB is expected. Schools are generally paying 2-3 million for a starting QB. Nico at 2.3-2.8 was correctly compensated. Nico at 3-4 million just didn’t make sense. We made a mistake in timing his holdout believing that the Vols wouldn’t go into a rebuilding year without him. Now he has limited options and is likely downgrading to a 3rd tier school in the ACC.
